« Nous parlons ici de viande vendue comme aliment pour chiens, puis servie à des êtres humains. Outre la qualité de la viande, l'hydroxyde d'ammonium est nocif pour la santé. » Oliver appelle cela « le processus de la bouillie rose ».

Dans le cadre d’une autre enquête, Oliver a montré comment sont fabriqués les nuggets de poulet : une fois les « meilleurs morceaux » sélectionnés, le reste — graisse, peau, cartilages, yeux, os, tête, pattes — est soumis à un processus de séparation mécanique appelé « Canica », un euphémisme utilisé par les ingénieurs agroalimentaires. Cette pâte rose sang, qui est désodorisée, blanchie, rafraîchie et recolorée, est ensuite enrobée de farine et frite. Elle est généralement frite dans des huiles partiellement hydrogénées — en d’autres termes, des substances toxiques.
L’industrie agroalimentaire utilise l’hydroxyde d’ammonium comme agent antimicrobien, ce qui permet à McDonald’s d’utiliser dans ses hamburgers de la viande impropre à la consommation humaine. Mais ce qui est encore plus alarmant, c’est le fait que ces substances à base d’ammonium et d’hydrogène soient considérées comme des « composants légaux du processus de production » dans l’industrie agroalimentaire mondiale, avec l’aval des autorités sanitaires. Par conséquent, les consommateurs ne sauront jamais quelles substances se trouvent dans leurs aliments.
