When British intelligence rejected him, he recruited himself to the Germans, invented an entire spy network from a Lisbon apartment using library books, and fed the Abwehr such convincing lies they awarded him the Iron Cross.
Britain gave him the MBE.
He was one of twenty-two double agents MI5 ran simultaneously. Britain had captured every Nazi spy sent to their shores and turned them all into weapons.
