The next critical objective is migration of the state offices, community colleges and public universities to the network. Currently, the plan is to connect 769 Sites to the network. To date, KCNA has connected 433 offices and higher education institutions to the network.

The KentuckyWired project reached a significant milestone this summer when KCNA completed installation of the final segment of fiber optic cable in Ring 4 in western Kentucky. All fiber optic cable required for the network is attached to poles or run through conduit.

The KentuckyWired project (KentuckyWired Infrastructure Co., Inc.)’s outstanding debt received a rating upgrade from Moody’s Investor Service on September 21, 2023.

The ratings on the project’s $225 million Series 2015A and $56.3 million Series 2015B were upgraded to Baa1.

All sites on Ring 2 have been transitioned to the network.

Recently, KCNA connected the following sites to the network:

KCTCS’ Ashland campus in Grayson, Carter County and
College Drive and Roberts Drive campuses in Ashland, Boyd County; and

Justice & Public Safety Cabinet, KSP Driver’s testing location in Pikeville, Pike County.

Last week KCNA connected to the network KCTCS' Big Sandy Community & Technical campuses in Prestonsburg and Pikeville, the CHFS/DCBS' and Energy & Environment Cabinet's regional offices in Hazard and a KSP location in Lexington. KCNA connects more offices to the network weekly.

Over the last two weeks, KCNA connected 6 state offices and three KCTCS campuses in Leslie, Pike and Perry counties to the network. KCNA has connected 432 sites to the network.

Last week KCNA connected the KCTCS Somerset South campus to the network. KCNA continues to connect new offices weekly.

KCNA connected the KCTCS – Somerset Community College – McCreary County Campus to the network last week. This is the second KCTCS location connected to the network.

KCNA recently connected the Kentucky Community & Technical Systems' Somerset campus to the KentuckyWired network. Improving broadband at Kentucky's public higher education institutions is an important part of the project.
