We are live at the Blockchain Centre NBO for the Kenya Ai Challenge 2026 pre-hackathon workshop.
Today, builders are taking their first deep dive into Neo4j and graph databases as they prepare for the June hackathon. The focus is on how connected data and AI can be applied to better understand the complex systems shaping smallholder agriculture in Kenya.

In collaboration with Mercy Corps AgriFin , DirectEd Development , Neo4j , and Lovable , this workshop is creating space for practical learning, experimentation, and collaboration ahead of the challenge.

We are also joined by an online audience, extending participation beyond the physical venue and bringing more builders into the conversation as we build toward the June hackathon.

We kicked off with participant introductions, after which the stage was set by Alfred Ongere, CEO of Ai Kenya, who shared the vision behind Ai Kenya and the importance of building a strong, community-driven AI ecosystem to unlock practical innovation across the region.

This was followed by a talk from Emmanuel Makau , Senior Regional Technology Manager at Mercy Corps AgriFin , who highlighted how technology and innovation are being applied to transform smallholder agriculture systems and improve real-world livelihoods.

Next, John Ndigirigi , will take participants into today’s hands-on session, guiding them through the core topic and practical build for the day.
