Kenya Power today hosted the Large Power M/SME Customer Engagement Forum in Thika town. Themed “Powering Reliability: Strengthening Supply Stability and Customer Confidence”, the forum brought together customers and Kenya Power teams to advance a more reliable energy future.
Officially opened by Regional Manager, North Eastern (Ag), Eng. Matthew Muthini, the platform gave customers a direct line to technical and customer service teams to raise concerns and get responses on issues affecting their operations.
Discussions covered power reliability, energy efficiency, tariffs, infrastructure security, smart grid innovations, and cost-reduction strategies including Time-of-Use tariff optimisation and power factor correction. Participants also addressed the need to protect electricity infrastructure from vandalism, illegal connections, and wayleave encroachment.
The Institute of Energy Studies and Research (IESR) showcased its work in energy consultancy, technical training, research, and sustainability initiatives.
The forum reaffirmed Kenya Power’s commitment to customer confidence through engagement, collaboration, and investments in supply stability and service excellence.

The Kenya Power Management Team, led by Acting Managing Director & CEO, Dr. Jeremiah Kiplagat, today participated in a joint consultative session with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and representatives of large power consumers from the private sector to chart the way forward in strengthening Kenya’s energy business operating environment.
During the session, Cabinet Secretary Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, EGH, accompanied by Principal Secretary for Petroleum Kello Harsama and officials from EPRA, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring energy remains a catalyst for business growth.
CS Wandayi highlighted structured deliberations with industry stakeholders under the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), focusing on three key priorities: adequacy of energy supply, reliability and quality of electricity, and affordability of energy.
The CS noted that to cushion businesses and households, the Government has suspended the proposed electricity tariff review and effective June 2026, electricity costs have reduced by KSh 0.2685 per kWh, driven by increased hydropower generation, a decrease in the Fuel Energy Cost (FEC), and a significant drop in the Forex Adjustment Levy.
The private sector, led by KAM, shared proposals on lowering the cost of power, emphasizing its direct impact on manufacturing, jobs, and overall economic performance. Discussions focused on short, medium, and long-term measures—including investments in generation and transmission infrastructure to make energy production costs more business-friendly and predictable.
Dr. Kiplagat underscored Kenya Power’s commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure business continuity and success across the country. On her part, Eng. Rosemary Oduor, General Manager, Commercial Sales & Services, reaffirmed the Company’s pledge to hold regular engagements with stakeholders to continually improve the business environment and keep Kenya moving forward.

Dr. Jeremiah Kiplagat, Director, Institute of Energy Studies & Research (IESR), speaking on behalf of MD & CEO Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror noted that the increased adoption of digital services has significantly reduced traffic in Kenya Power's banking halls, reflecting growing customer confidence as the Company moves towards a fully digital payment ecosystem.
He further noted that the Customer Experience Roadshows will drive customer education on digital services, fraud prevention, electrical safety, and e-cooking as Kenya Power advances its customer-centric transformation.

Today, Kenya Power flagged off the Customer Experience Roadshows, a nationwide initiative aimed at bringing services closer to customers, strengthening engagement, and promoting the adoption of digital solutions. The launch was led by Dr. Jeremiah Kiplagat, Director, Institute of Energy Studies & Research (IESR), speaking on behalf of MD & CEO Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, alongside Eng. Rosemary Oduor, General Manager, Commercial Services and Sales, and Waceke Mbugua, Customer Experience Manager.
In line with this, the Company has announced a phased transition to fully digital payments, with all remaining banking hall payment counters set to close by June 2027, as customers increasingly shift to digital platforms that now handle over 5 million interactions monthly. The transition will be implemented in three phases across the country, supported by the Twende Digital campaign, which focuses on digital services, fraud prevention, electrical safety, and e-cooking.
Customers can already access services such as token purchases, bill payments, self-meter readings, and outage reporting through the MyPower App, *977#, and Nuru Bot, making service delivery simpler, faster, and more convenient without visiting physical offices.
