๐ฐ In April 2002, $SKHY Korean manufacturer Hynix was drowning in debt. Micron offered about $3.4B in stock for its DRAM memory business. The Hynix board voted unanimously, "no".
A decade later, telecom giant SK acquired Hynix, who experimented with AMD to build the first version of the modern HBM-wired GPU. For years it barely sold. Samsung competed but exited the market in 2019.
When AI arrived in 2024, @NVDA needed this new type of HBM memory and $SKHY was the perfect partner. Today it makes about 60% of the world's HBM, it's worth more than $1T, and in July it listed on Nasdaq as $SKHY.
Sometimes a "no" is the best thing that can happen to you.

Perpetual futures work best in markets with highly liquid spot venues that move in lines (not jumps) for orderly liquidations.
Many builders are trying to stack novel metrics on top of HIP-3 or perps models that don't fit that description.
Do they know something the rest of us don't know?
Perpetual futures have been the first web3 primitive to truly innovate on the American financial system (weekend trading) and have revolutionized the concept of synthetic ownership.
But is it the right asset class for novel markets and forms of exposure?
We're building a new market mechanism and launching new market categories unlike anything anyone in TradFi or web3 have done before.
We're been working with some of the smartest engineers and quants in DeFi to bring this to life.

๐ค What is the single most successful "alternative asset or metric" perps market?
There's a graveyard of failed HIP-3 attempts of Pokemon cards, electricity, GPU prices...
