Remnants of Typhoon Halong struck western Alaska on October 12-13, delivering gusts up to 107 mph and severe storm surges that flooded coastal villages in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, including Kipnuk and Kwigillingok. Damage included homes swept into rivers, power outages, and evacuations; one person died, two remain missing, over 50 were rescued, and roughly 1,000 displaced. Winds at landfall equated to Category 1-2 hurricane strength, not sustained Category 4 as the typhoon had offshore before weakening.
