Ten billion snow crabs lost due to shifts in ocean temperatures. Pretty soon we'll have to start eating algae. Or Soylent Green.

From Dr Stallknecht’s influenza presentation at WDA. He does a great job of pointing the way to solutions. Basic science is critical, but it’s application is just as important.
At the Wildlife Disease Association meeting. Great plenary presentation from David Stallknecht on HP avian influenza. This slide sums it up. Our current troubles with wild bird mortality are a direct result of this Guangdong lineage persisting in the environment for nearly 30 yrs
Check out Omar Viera's publication on morbillivirus in sea lions! He used tissue explants to show how the virus interacts with and possibly influences the expression of its receptors in host cells. I am grateful to have had Omar in my lab.

@BrianToad Clearly this guy was enraged. Whoever is currently responsible for the stabbings must have a serious mental illness. I don't believe a mentally competent person could stab an innocent person repeatedly to kill them. My mind can't even process that.
This seems weird. So I have to post more and pester more people to be accepted as a real person? Feels like I'm being punished for taking a vacation from Twitter.
Just found a very cool article about bird flight. Alpine swifts can stay in the air for 200 days! In comparison, I can't sit at my computer for more than 2 hours.

Check out our new article on the pathogenesis of white-nose syndrome in #bats! If anybody is still on twitter.
Nice work from Piya Eiamcharoen. It got her a first place ribbon for her poster at the ACVP meeting! Proud to have been her adviser.

@wyomingdoc Like I've said before, the voting is overwhelmingly partisan these days. If the Republicans had nominated a damned chicken it would have probably gotten about the same results.
Congratulations to Piyaporn Eiamcharoen on her 1st place poster at ACVP! She presented on adherence of Pseudogymnoascus destructans, the #fungus that causes white-nose syndrome in #bats. She is an exceptional (former) grad student and soon to be an exceptional faculty member!
