ArenaNet has confirmed that Guild Wars 3 will not have a battle pass or a monthly subscription.
Studio lead Colin Johanson said the team does not want to “keep people hostage” with systems that make players feel like they have to log in every day or pay every month to keep up.
“We don’t want to keep people hostage.”
He said ArenaNet wants people to play because they enjoy the game, not because they are worried about missing rewards or wasting money on a subscription.
“We want people to come back because they love the game, not because they’re afraid of losing something.”
Like previous Guild Wars games, Guild Wars 3 is expected to make money through game sales, expansions, and optional cosmetic items instead of subscriptions or battle passes.
ArenaNet says it wants to respect players’ time and let them play when they want.
Keldon Johnson deserves his flowers:
Drafted to San Antonio and played behind DeMar DeRozan in 2019 through 2021.
Immediately got sent to the bench and saw a decrease in his minutes while questioning if the team might be moving him.
To now playing alongside Wemby and being a mentor to the young guys and reaching the Finals with the Spurs.
You LOVE to see it. 🙏
Keldon came into the interview room after another tough loss and cracked a joke about the mic being loud.
@tom_orsborn asked about having a sense of humor in times like these.
Keldon then worked through the most profound thing I’ve ever heard him say, in a way only he could.
I don’t even want to calculate how much I (1.6 million echo pearls) and my wife (1.4 million echo pearls) have spent… but I hope it’s close enough to get this fit when it releases!! #wwm#wherewindsmeet
