This is my lane of expertise so let me help you translate what AOC is saying here:
It’s Marxism.
She claims that the foundation of Western culture is thin” and that culture is really nothing more than a perpetual state of evolution in response to material causes.
Your primary marker of identification should not be tied to religion or the place you live but to your “class.”
This is textbook philosophical Marxism.
A recent statement by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez illuminates the Marxist ideology which continues to take hold of American politicians. Here are my thoughts.
@SeanParnellASW@PeteHegseth This feels silly. If you can manipulate them with money, then they don’t have integrity. Why not just support @TrailLifeUSA instead?
@MAC_Arms “Battles are ugly when women fight.” CS Lewis
I’m actually glad she’s not holding it correctly. The cringe part is that she’s kitted up in the first place, and that she’s in this role where she feels like she needs to even do something like this.
In the old world, priests ate bread but couldn't drink wine. Communion in one kind.
In the new world, the Christian priesthood (i.e., the whole church) drinks wine along with the bread of the presence. Wine is the Big New Deal.
Imagine refusing to give wine to the "laity." Imagine subbing in insipid grape juice for wine that makes the heart glad.
Very like a desire to return to old Egypt.
Are you saying that the Catholic Church adjudicates and enforces consistently? Are you saying that there aren’t any Catholic clergy openly touting disqualifying nonsense who are not being disciplined/disqualified? I’m genuinely curious. It feels like this particular critique loses almost all of its potency if one can point to places where this enforcement mechanism isn’t working.
“The world will never lack wonders; what it lacks is wonder. We grow blind not because the light is dim, but because we forget to look. The moment a man learns to marvel again, he steps back into the richness of reality.”
— G. K. Chesterton
AI teetotaling is going to become a thing (at least blatant generative AI in the arts). Some will commit to fully abstaining, and others will AI casually.
I don't want to get too specific because what I'm saying is true on multiple fronts, especially here on social media. Find a local church that transcends the zeitgeist. A church and Christian community rooted in antiquity (but don't be fooled by just the smells and bells).
Theological innovation is a dangerous game, so new scholars frame it in the guise of retrieval. Now, retrieval is real and good, but a great litmus test to its validity is whether the Church ever actually promoted the thing you claim to be *retrieving.*
The point I'm making is that you have to actually do a lot of work to not be suckered by new theological innovations clothed in "retrieval" language. And you will do well to find refuge in the ancient witness of the Church and her creeds and liturgies.
