When you first travel to the UK, a lot of people will tell you (You can easily get depressed here, TRY TO AVOID IT)
Then the days come when you start to show tiny tiny signs of low mood, not even sure if it’s normal or not, and they say: see we told you TRY TO AVOID DEPRESSION
Okay then what should I do? How do I actually avoid it?
I feel like everything is stressing me out. Everything has consequences. You have to think about this and that.
Apart from work, they say(Remember, you came here to live a better life, so you have to live a better life)
You need to take care of yourself ,your health, your eating, cleaning your room.
Oh, and don’t forget about career progression! You should book that exam, that conference, that course… study and study.
Don’t forget your family , you didn’t call that relative, and now he’ll be mad at you.
Did you book your flight back home? Plan everything! Who will cover your on-calls?
You need a GP appointment ,try to book one, on the same day as your oncall? معلش
And of course, you’re in the UK, and you haven’t visited this place or that place? How could you!
So how can I keep my mental health stable with so many things stressing me out
and finally you realize that , a big reason for your low mood/stress is caused by your trial to avoid it, why not to normalize it?
And at the end of it , you’re not allowed to complain.
If you tell people back home, they’ll say you’re living the dream, you have everything, how could you be depressed?!
If you tell people in the UK, they’ll say, we told you “Avoid getting depressed.”
And I’m lost in between.
