We live in an age where we could literally never consume all the information that is produced and shared online.
But so often we teach as if we were the most significant source of information.
Instead, how are we changing the way we teach as a result?
The goal of teaching should not be to help the students learn how to memorize and spit out information under academic pressure. 🧠
The purpose of teaching is to inspire the desire for learning in them and make them able to think, understand, and question.

We mistake ease with happiness. Thinking that if life or work was easier, we’d be happier.
The reality is that doing hard things allows us to be fully engaged in the process, making us feel alive.
Tchrs who listen to kids’ conversations, observe their projects, & read their writing don't need to use tests. But this assumes kids have a chance to converse, design projects, & write. If they just listen to lecs & do wksheets, there’s not much authentic learning to BE assessed
Start rewarding academic risk. Students need to understand taking calculated risks leads to failure, growth, and success.
Grades don’t matter. Learning matters.
School is about avoidance.
Avoid errors, avoid causing trouble, avoid displaying characteristics outside of the norm.
Life is about exploration. Testing ideas, struggling with an experience, exploring your interests to find a good match.
I don't like to read. I prefer to talk. I teach English.
So many people reduce what it means to teach English into book-loving that we exclude some students from considering it as an option for their future.
Think about the other ways we do this in English & in other subjects.
