Eng Trans : 🦆 The MOMENTUM Interview (2/4) - 13092024
🎤 Was Teacher Keng a strict teacher?
🦆 Yes, I was strict. The students said Teacher Keng was very strict. But I also had kind moments too. (laughs)
🎤 Because he is naturally introverted, sometimes when students misbehaved he would simply scold them with his eyes. If the classroom became noisy, he would stay silent as a signal that he was about to get serious.
🦆 But after class, I’d switch back. When the kids played football, I’d go play with them.
🎤 What was the turning point that led a Thai language teacher change direction and become an actor?
🦆 Family. (Harit answered briefly.)
🦆 Actually, I had been trying to enter the entertainment since my 1st year in university. I won a university King College contest.
🦆 At that time there was also a film casting in Chiang Mai, so my mentor encouraged me to audition. I passed the casting and kept moving forward, eventually coming to Bangkok.
🦆 But it didn’t really continue seriously, I was quite disappointed back then.
🦆 But honestly, I never thought I had to cling to this career. I saw it as an opportunity that might help support my family so I wouldn’t become a burden. I could study without asking my family for money.
Harit also shared a story about being cast in a commercial but the COVID-19 pandemic struck, causing the production to stop.
🦆 I felt discouraged and thought, that’s enough. From my first year to my fourth year there were only obstacles. Maybe fate wanted me to go back to being a teacher. (laughs)
🦆 So I returned to focusing on finishing my studies. But near graduation, DoMunDi contacted me and suggested me try acting auditions again, just in case this might finally be the right place for me.
🦆 I decided to back. At that time it happened with the project The Paradise of Thorns. The casting team messaged me and said maybe I should try auditioning again because the character Jingna felt very similar to me.
Why did you decide to audition again this time?
🦆 I was about to graduate. Being a teacher meant stability, no big risks, a fixed career path, salary and welfare.
🦆 But being an actor… I don’t understand myself either. I just felt that if I didn’t take this opportunity, it might never come again. This audition felt like my last chance, so I decided to take the risk. I didn’t know if this the right way but I got the role.
🎤 Casting at GDH is known, designed to find the most fitting actor. So why did Jingna end up being played by this former teacher?
🦆 I think several factors, my background from northern region, I am marginalized,as a member of the Tai Lue ethnic group. I have accent similarly to Tai Yai, I think I am Jingna as some part.
🦆 In the past, I believed strongly in karma, which is similar to Jingna. I felt life was just going to be like this, maybe it was my fate, something that I couldn’t push beyond. I didn’t have that much knowledge, I didn’t come from a family or social background that would allow me to raise my own ceiling any higher.
🦆 I felt like after graduating, I would just find something to do without really knowing what my goal was. I believed it was all karma, I should just let things take, leave it to fate. That’s why there’s a similar look in the eyes between Jingna and me.
🎤 Has that mindset changed after taking on the role of Jingna?
#KengHarit answered he has begun to think more positively, look at the world with greater optimism. He is now ready to welcome every opportunity and willing to learn. This is similar to Jingna when meets Thongkam, he begins to see the world as brighter, feels happier being around him.
If Thongkam is the turning point that changes Jingna, what is the turning point that changed Harit?
🦆 Only family. My family is the one place where I feel like I can see a light in the darkness. I know that I need to run toward. I don’t know what I’ll encounter along the way, but I know if I make it, my family will live comfortably.

Kru Den talks about the ghost scenes vs. the wedding scene:
Kru Den: When it comes to real difficulty, like when we talk about rituals, we usually think of ghost stories, right?
Kru Den: But we have another ritual coming up in the special episode: a wedding ceremony.
Kru Den: This one was really tough. (emphasizing)
MC: A wedding ceremony... a auspicious ceremony!
Kru Den: So tough! It's a joyful ceremony, but...
Kru Den: I want to talk about it a bit because it was truly challenging. It was actually harder than the scenes with ghosts!
Kru Den: Because with ghosts, there are manuals and textbooks to follow. We just do what's documented and we're done. But when it came to the wedding... it wasn't just a regular wedding. It was a wedding specifically for these two characters. We had to act like actual wedding planners designing a wedding tailored just for them.
Kru Den: So, Poppy, would you believe that as soon as P'Option said, 'Okay, let's do a special episode,' and we discussed the wedding details, I got straight to work? It took nearly half a year, even before we had a script or anything else; just focusing on the wedding alone.
MC: Half a year?
Kru Den: Every team worked on it as if planning a real wedding.
MC: Like a real-life event, right?
Kru Den: A real event! The costume team felt like they were on Project Runway.
Kru Den: I gave them details like 'Pho Khru was born on a Saturday' and 'I want lotus-petal purple fabric,' then let them expand on the concept. It needed to be traditional, but not over the top. It had to feature a touch of modernity because Khem is a modern person from Bangkok.
Kru Den: As for the art team, they had to source specific items and craft sacred 'Baisri' arrangements. There's also another non-traditional wedding scene, so I threw them a bizarre prompt: 'I want the wedding food to be Isan fine dining. Go make it happen!'
MC: (laughs) So you made some really tough requests too!
Kru Den: Right! We wanted it to look chic. We wanted Isan culture to blend tradition with modernity. Fortunately, members of the art team were big fans of cooking shows! They got super excited and pitched ideas like... 'Our appetizer will be 'Khao Jee crackers served with tomato dip sauce,' stuff like that. We had so much fun with it.
Kru Den: But preparation was tough. We had to consult experts in Isan traditions to confirm if these ceremonies were authentic.
Kru Den: (asking the MC and fans) You all know about the boiled egg ritual, right? When you slice it open, the yolk MUST be perfectly in the center. It's a belief that signifies everlasting love.
MC: Oh, wow! I had no idea about that at all.
Kru Den: Exactly! Now imagine filming that, Poppy. How do you slice an egg to guarantee it is centered? How do we film the close-up shot of the egg cutting right in the middle? If it wasn't centered, we had to keep retaking it over and over.
