My Love Letter to Investment Banking is still being Written…
Three years since Centurion One Capital was founded. I do not say this lightly. We are extremely close to the financial model arriving before the Managing Director decides he wants it. We are not asking for a ban. We are asking for a pause.
September kicked off with a bang as the Prime Minister of Canada, a.k.a. “Cartel Carney,” dominated headlines with the first Canada Investment Summit, which the government said unleashed nearly $500 billion of new investment commitments in Canada. Hosted in partnership with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments), the summit brought together investors from nearly 30 countries managing more than $100 trillion in assets.
Why was Shopify not in attendance? Was small business invited to this party, or was it just for the Canadian version of the Kremlin? Really happy for Morgan Stanley and CIBC, which reportedly won the mandates to advise Ottawa on airport concessions at Pearson, Montréal–Trudeau, Vancouver, and Calgary. Those shops clearly needed the work.
Toronto was buzzing last week with the Toronto International Film Festival and the Canada Investment Summit. Let’s just hope this translates into less red tape, lower taxes, clearer business guidelines, and a natural-resource mega-boom. Maybe Canada will be investable again? Capital will visit for the natural beauty, but it will not stay — not even for the maple syrup or ketchup chips. Vision without execution is hallucination.
We continue to believe that we are in a secular bull market for equities. Men lie, women lie, earnings don’t.
The Colorado Rockies, the Centennial State, and the Mile High City
I am in Colorado this week, starting at the 2026 Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek. Please reach out for a Coors Light or a craft beer. I am staying in the luxurious Creekside: a two-star, non-refundable condo — free Wi-Fi, no housekeeping, no hair dryer, premium bedsheets, cable channels included — a paradise chalet in the Village. Please also note that my host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property and suggests considering a portable detector for the trip.
Colorado’s identity was forged by mining. The 1858–59 Pikes Peak Gold Rush brought tens of thousands of prospectors west, led to the Colorado Territory in 1861, and helped the territory become a state in 1876. Gold started the boom; silver made it enormous. Now Centurion One Capital aims to reignite it.
If you don't want to make mistakes, I doubt you will be super successful because failure is the best teacher.
Also very important to learn from mistakes and not repeat them!
On this day in 1986, Canadian author Robert Munsch released his book Love You Forever.
It is a book that originated from tragedy but from that tragedy came something wonderful and beloved around the world.
This is the story of one of Canada's most acclaimed books.
