Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Hammond Abeiku, says members remain on strike, citing inconsistencies in a second statement from the Ministry of Health despite assurances from the Ashanti Regional Minister.

The A&e was NOT shut down. To shut down means the place was closed and HCWs not attending to patients.

That did not happen.

There was a TEMPORARY HALT in the admission of new cases due to congestion and overcrowding. At that point, the best course of action was taken to allow the redistribution of patients to other facilities and decongest the A&E.

@AhenkanEnoch People perish from overcrowding, not screening. KATH’s unit is built for 37 but had 61 patients and 34 waiting. Pausing admissions for 24 hours to divert non-critical cases to peripheral hospitals is standard safety protocol to clear backlogs and save lives, not 'shutting down'.
