Oh, one thing that became obvious pretty quickly was the way "likes", "followers/following", the metrics of it all created an hierarchy that in many ways obstructed community formation. So I participated in other spaces that had none of that. 🤷🏾‍♀️

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

I commented and shared posts from the users whose perspectives + taste I genuinely enjoyed. Different kinds of relationships organically developed from that. I never thought it would happen from simply posting. In fact, I could have done all that without posting.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

but that's something different.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

I wondered about this. I wanted to be a part of a bookish community so I bookstagrammed. I put a lot of effort into my photos/reviews (which got me publishing work). That was the way I wanted to be in the community but for me to be a part of it I had to engage with others.

I get it, honestly. But I think writers need to understand that the ao3 comment section is NOT a substitute for finding fandom community. The only way to truly find that is by acting like a regular Nerdy Fan on social sites & putting in equal efforts for reciprocal relationships

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

I am in a lot of amateur art spaces offline where people do it for the love of it and it's understood what you have to do to make + sustain community. It is not about presenting your work and expecting it to form around you. You will always have star types who get a following +l

@NYgoalieCurse @Usahime_sama Yes. Everyone in this thread except Usahime understood. You can untag me from any further clarifications and sort out the "different readings" between yourselves if you care to.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@Usahime_sama @megtual Right.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@Usahime_sama @megtual Like it is QUITE obvious what her thesis is built on. Perhaps you are the one who doesn't understand her position.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@Usahime_sama @megtual Who are her "freeloaders" then, according to you? There are several tweets around where she "literally" named and maligned "lurkers" or those who were mere "audience" and only valued a fan whose activity was measured in ways she deemed valid.

ilya checks shane's phone and idly peeks through his messages. boring. switches to his instagram dms. he sees half the league trapped in the requests, unsubtly hitting on shane.

he starts hysterically deleting them, until he comes across— "MARLEY? WHY?"

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@jukoist @baldcae Same for the monetisation sites. I wouldn't conflate that with fan made gdrives/archives addressed in the OP.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@jukoist @baldcae If you're worried about AI scraping you will have to refrain from posting on the internet all together except, perhaps on specific private servers with an anti AI TOS? If it's on AO3 or any other site it has either been scraped or will be.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

@_footnoted They are all giving "this is realer to them than anything in their own life". It's another 24 hrs before I start muting accounts.

[Kiki @KikiRivalry]

I'm gonna have to mute H's name for a bit. This is too much about something I don't care about. 🌚
