FIGHT THE MASS LAYOFFS AND EXPLOITATION AT HACIENDA ASIA PLANTATIONS!

Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) condemns the illegal dismissal of 93 workers from Hacienda Asia Plantations Inc. (HAPI Inc.) on October 24, 2025. The oil palm plantation, owned by the Consunji family and Alfred Joseph Araneta, has long exploited its workers.

The latest attack reflects worsening attacks on labor by greedy capitalists in collusion with the anti-worker Marcos government.

Workers who have served for 2–3 years were fired without due process or clear cause. They were forced to sign undated resignation letters, denied compensation, and barred by supervisors from bringing their complaints to DOLE.

Some of those dismissed were farmers and indigenous Ati people deceived by the Consunjis. They were promised permanent jobs in exchange for their land, only to be thrown away once the company profited.

Various forms of abuse are also inflicted on the workers to ensure that the Consunjis extract larger margins of profit, despite having a USD 3.7 billion net worth: illegal deductions for SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG without proof of remittance; no 13th month pay or leave benefits; and stripping regular status to pave the way for more layoffs.

Since January 2025, 218 workers have already been terminated - a number expected to rise as the oil palm matures. This is part of a broader pattern of union-busting and exploitation by big landlords and corporations like the Consunjis, backed by the Marcos regime.

To the workers of HAPI Inc. - you are not alone. Across the country, workers face the same exploitation and repression. Together, we can resist!

Support the HAPI Inc. workers! Their fight is the fight of all Filipinos against capitalist greed and anti-worker policies allowed and implemented by the Marcos government.
