Working as an astronaut requires technical skills, but developing 'soft skills' is equally as important. Soft skills include flexibility, effective communication, resilience, and the ability to display the leadership/follower skills that are necessary in an isolated group environment. All of these traits are important to ensure a healthy group dynamic when working in a confined space (especially when it's not even on the planet!).

"Leadership is language". Words are powerful tools that energise or deflate, inspire or dishearten. When we talk about "resources" rather than "people", or use "they" rather than "we" or say someone is lazy or use "must" or "have to" or abbreviations excessively, we set the culture. There are some great examples of leadership teams identifying words they want to use more & less often & holding each other to account for it: https://t.co/46cl1VGwTF Via @ant_murphy@noelito

@MarkCCrowley I suspect that the natural tension between wanting to protect and wanting to encourage independent thought might be one of the most difficult challenges of parenthood. High respect to those who take it on!
Note to self: literally, write a note to yourself
I think people wildly underestimate how much intention gets lost in the day-to-day shuffle of life.
They chalk up their inaction to a lack of motivation or laziness when really what's happening isn't friction - it's forgetting.
Had a client put two thoughts on a post-it note so her declared intentions would be visible and accessible.
Total game changer for her.
She didn't realize how visual she was or how much a little note would prompt her to do something she normally wouldn't do (but wanted to.)
Write it down. Make it visible.
@Pam_Rubin1 Yes - not only it is visually more arresting it is an active exercise in gaining clarity. PS: only up to 28 point font most of the time - so far 😊
