@MattWalshBlog Agree 1000%. It’s incoherent and ridiculous. I half watched while working on something so I don’t feel as bad about my wasted time. Slop.
STOP what you're doing and let's HELP THIS KID by MAKING NOISE. He's a licensed EMT and volunteer firefighter - and Fremont, Nebraska just told him he can't have a paid fire job BECAUSE HE WAS HOMESCHOOLED!
Coates is 22. He already rides with Cedar Bluffs Fire as a volunteer and holds a Nebraska EMT license.
⠀
"Make a career out of it would be the goal, to get paid to do what you love," he told WOWT.
⠀
The April posting he applied under asked for "graduation from high school." The city said his diploma did not count because Nebraska treats homeschool as unaccredited.
⠀
Fremont later rewrote the description to "graduation from an accredited high school." HR director Jennifer McDuffee said accreditation was already implied.
⠀
"I would say it's a standard understanding that when someone requests a high school diploma or GED that they're asking for an accredited diploma," McDuffee said.
⠀
Homeschools in Nebraska operate as Rule 13 exempt schools. Parents file annually and meet hour rules without state accreditation.
⠀
"We understood that our homeschool operated legally under Nebraska's Rule 13," his father, Seth Coates, told the Omaha World-Herald. "What we never imagined was that the City of Fremont would treat the absence of accreditation as a basis for disqualifying Andrew from public employment."
⠀
JoAnn Coates taught Andrew and his five siblings at home. About 30 homeschool families packed the Civil Service Commission hearing.
⠀
Cedar Bluffs Fire Chief Chris Lichtenberg told the board the city is passing on a firefighter he already trusts. "I feel the city of Fremont's really missing out here, and in my mind, because of his home schooling, you guys are discriminating against him."
⠀
Commissioner Doug Backens rejected that word. "I don't think there was any discrimination against him, and when they use that word, I don't care to hear that word out there."
⠀
Chairman Steve Tellatin noted the original posting's ambiguity. The commission took no action and said city policy is not theirs to rewrite.
⠀
Seth Coates said the family now has 30 days to file in court. Andrew said the fight is no longer only about his application.
⠀
"We're not mad about one applicant, my application. I think now it's turned into we want to make sure that every homeschooler has an equal opportunity."
⠀

@HarmeetKDhillon is this something @CivilRights can look into? @jbinnall and @AndrewOllis - the @TheKashFdn ??
Proud to receive the endorsement of the Ohio State Medical Association, representing doctors across the state. Their process was rigorous, and it speaks volumes in this race - for obvious reasons.
How will we fix the property tax crisis? What’s the plan to prosecute Medicaid fraud? What are we going to do about data centers? Sanctuary cities? Photo ID to vote?
Voters deserve a debate. Acton needs to stop hiding & show up.
@DonaldJTrumpJr I want lower property taxes, better schools and safety. She can't even manage to debate her opponent. She has no ideas, vision or fortitude for the people of Ohio.
I hear about it in town halls & I hear about it in restaurants and bars: property taxes. We’ll have the biggest property tax cut in Ohio’s history - enacted in the first half of 2027.
This is an unconscionable tragedy because it was preventable. This perpetrator shouldn’t have ever been in our country, let alone permitted to remain here. But he ended up driving drunk & killed an innocent young man in Ohio. I won’t tolerate this in our state.
🚨 BREAKING: Scott Bessent just sent shivers down the spine of Iranian regime leaders. What a bad*ss...
"I will say it on worldwide TV: we KNOW WHERE in the British Virgin Islands your accounts are, at these trust companies. We know the hundred million dollar houses you have around the world. WE ARE GOING TO CLOSE ALL THAT DOWN."
🔥🔥🔥
"We are going after the regime's assets they have stolen from the Iranian people."
"They can go to the victims of terror."
"After 47 years — IT IS OVER."
"Either you are with us, or against us."
I had to read this three times before I could believe it was real.
Rotherham. A small town in northern England.
For sixteen years, at least 1,400 children — some as young as eleven — were raped, gang-raped, and trafficked between cities by organized groups of men.
Eleven years old.
Petrol was poured on them so they would stay quiet.
Their families were threatened with death.
Photos were taken and used as blackmail.
The police knew.
The council knew.
The social workers knew.
For sixteen years, not one of them moved.
Why?
Because officers were afraid of being called racist if they acted on what they were seeing.
That was the whole reason.
While children were being sold, adults were protecting their own reputations.
That is the moment something in you breaks.
And here is the part that makes it worse.
The TV networks did not report it. The papers did not chase it.
When the journalist Andrew Norfolk finally broke the story, even he thought maybe 150 girls had been hurt.
The real number was 1,400.
He was staggered.
This should have been the biggest story of the decade. It was not.
The networks looked away. The advertisers preferred safer topics.
The cover-up did not end when the report was published — it continued in the silence of every newsroom that refused to chase it.
Then Elon Musk bought X.
The advertisers fled.
The press declared the platform finished.
X almost did not survive.
But it did.
And on X, the names of those towns started trending.
Rotherham.
Telford.
Rochdale.
Oldham.
Towns the country had been told to forget.
Britain understands itself differently today.
Not because the politicians confessed.
Not because the broadcasters apologized.
Because one platform refused to let it stay buried.
X almost did not survive.
1,400 children almost stayed forgotten.
That is worth saying out loud.
You have to watch this. This man was issued a ticket by an AI Red light Camera and he wasn’t even in the state that issued him the ticket.
Now you would think this would be a simple matter to resolve; however, it’s anything but because the company that owns this equipment is a private company owned by a global corporation that isn’t even in the US!
So we now have foreign actors accessing American Citizens personal and private information. How in the hell is this allowed!
@ksorbs Her ex-husband has forgiven her and wishes her peace. His mother clearly does not want harm to come to her. Her parents (including her father) support her. Should they also not be allowed to vote?
