There was nothing “lost” about last school year. Educators stepped up to care for & teach students through immense pressures & tiresome rhetoric. It was different, new, cumbersome, exhilarating, clunky, restorative, hard & A LOT, but it was not lost.
Don’t erase the work done!
Just finished our Kindergarten end of the (calendar) year zoom lunch and I think we're going to do it once a month as long as virtual learning continues.
Yes, we're all screen tired but having time to just hang out with these amazing and interesting humans really made my day.
At morning meeting today I asked my Kindergarteners if they had heard about any good things on the news, and we ended up talking about vaccines and masks.
We all agreed that we hope that we can go back to school safely soon, and that a vaccine is a step in that direction.
Today, on day 396 of online Kindergarten, my kids started talking to each other without my prompting.
I'm not lying when I tell you I started crying with my camera off. I almost don't want to interrupt by starting class.
Refreshed our online classroom (morning meeting slide) for next week to get into Q2!
We're going to try greeting each other with speech bubbles because zoom audio is making sharing really challenging.
@researchandplay can you tell we combined counting collections with texture in small groups this morning? Smooth, soft, and hard collections were a hit! A "sharp" collection was suggested but we agreed it wouldn't be safe. 😂
Thank you for the inspo!
@Seesaw voice comments are the best thing about teaching Kindergarten over the internet.
Believe me, it's a short list, but these slow insights into my students' thinking is a mode of representation I've never used before and they ALWAYS make me smile.
