@CherylSchatz@LeonardG56161 Colossians, Peter, Corinthians. You're way off here. Paul is moving from a general statement on submission to specific examples where it applies.
@CherylSchatz@LeonardG56161 So since after Paul talks about husbands and wives he addresses children and parents do you likewise believe that parents should be in mutual submission to their children? And what of the other passages in the Bible that address this without speaking of submission one to another?
@CherylSchatz I'm looking into it. In the meantime, the wedding at Cana is called the first sign. The healing of the official's son in John 4 is called the second sign. Any thoughts on the apparent contradiction?
@CherylSchatz You didn't answer my question. The answer is Jesus performed his signs in Galilee. He didn't do them in Judea, even though he did miraculous things there they weren't signs. The faithful disciples were from Galilee, where Jesus performed signs. Why? What was different in Galilee?
@CherylSchatz You'd have to believe it a coincidence that the eleven faithful disciples were all the ones from Galilee. That seems a stretch. Take a glance at the first 6 chapters of John. Where is Jesus when he is performing signs?
I read what he wrote. It's possible to believe in either Calvinism or Provisionism and also that a biblical case can be made for the opposite case. I've talked to people on both sides of this issue that believe exactly that. That's not to say both are true, but rather that one can see where the confusion comes from. It's not cut and dry. Which is why you shouldn't, as Skeletor said, just accuse people of not having read something. It's insulting and makes you look bad.
Equating eating meat to human life is nonsense. Even if you believe all life is sacred, you have to know most don't see it that way. And that raises other questions, like in addition to not eating meat, shouldn't I try to prevent animals from eating each other if they are truly sacred?
There are some who don't like abortion under any circumstance, but many under the pro-life position will allow for abortion if the life of the mother is truly at risk. Thankfully that has become more and more rare with the advancement of medicine, and so, even allowing for that, abortions would be extremely rare.
Mark 8:12 ESV
[12] And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, โWhy does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.โ
I have an alternative take. This verse I quoted is Jesus talking to the Pharisees. It comes in short order after the feeding of the 5000 and the feeding of the 4000. We know from John's account that the feeding of the 5000 was a sign. So was the feeding of the 4000, for that matter.
Is this a contradiction? No, because biblically the word generation doesn't always mean everyone alive at that time. It can mean a group of people with a shared characteristic. Like when the Bible talks about a wicked, perverse, adulterous generation in Deuteronomy 32, Isaiah 59 and elsewhere it isn't referring to everyone alive at that time, just those it applies to.
Here in Mark this generation is the spiritual leaders/Pharisees of that day. Because Jesus did do signs.
So with this in mind, it is possible that Jesus is saying that the church would not be snuffed out before He returns. That this generation means believers.
