Correct. Not to mention the immense health and safety costs to Kingman Park neighbors who will be exposed to dangerous pollution from thousands of cars idling outside their homes. Research suggests increased risks of asthma and premature deaths, esp for children and seniors.
@JaxsonnJordan@Terpin8or@CMZParker5 Nope. Per the deal: "DC ...would get 0% of stadium revenues: The team would receive all “stadium operating revenues, including from naming rights, sponsorship, advertising ... premium seating, ticket proceeds, merchandise, food and beverage, and parking."
"We're in the middle of a recession, and 40,000 federal workers are losing their jobs. I don't think this is the right time for us to be pouring over a billion dollars into a stadium," said D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen.

@AlexKomaDC He did even ATTEMPT to meet and discuss these plans with the community before this announcement. Traffic to those horrible parking garages will poison thousands of residents in the KP Historic District. He sees our neighborhood as a cash cow to be exploited, nothing more.
@crimedog_619@john_keim@NFTC_News@DCSuperSid There are literally ZERO million dollar homes for sale in Kingman Park / Rosedale, just a couple multiplex buildings on Benning. And since when does million = billion? Stick with San Diego food pix bro ✌️
@Joy7News @RebeccaTurcoTV@Scott7news@7NewsDC The proposed "Kingman Park District" is dominated by thousands of parking spaces that the community has already REJECTED. Deplorable plan puts health and safety of thousands of residents at risk through inviting poison and pollution into an African American historic district.
@lindseyjonesr@MayorBowser@Commanders I think she means "traffic to the new Kingman Park-adjacent parking garages will poison and suffocate residents of the Kingman Park Historic District"
Kingman Park District and DPR District will be controlled by DC. Stadium District will be leased to Commanders for $1/year. Plaza District & Riverfront District will be commercial developments leased to Commanders for 60 years, first 28 years at $1/year.
RFK was a flashpoint in the Ward 7 Council race: Ebony Payne nearly scored the upset, in part, by capitalizing on anger from Kingman Park residents.
So it's notable that Wendell Felder, after sidestepping questions about this for months, says he's "unequivocally" supportive.
@broadcastben_ Terrible reporting, my god. This street has become exponentially safer since DDOT redesigned it, backed by *actual traffic data*. Do your homework. One horrific hit-and-run driver, going insane speeds, probably drunk or on drugs if I had to wager, does not dismiss that work.
Filling these seats on our local courts is vital. It continues to be a grave injustice to DC that the actions of a single Senator can prevent us from having a fully functional local court system. We are the only place in America where this can happen, and it’s dead wrong.
The CR does include language to transfer RFK Stadium from the federal government to D.C. This paves the way for the Commanders to move to the District.
Big win for the the new ownership group.
15 years ago today, the DC Council cast its second & final vote in favor of marriage equality.
The District of Columbia was the first jurisdiction in the United States below the Mason–Dixon line to allow same-sex couples to marry.

“If D.C. gives their [Maryland’s] state one of its Air National Guard squadrons, they may support a bill allowing the District to redevelop the RFK Stadium site”. What a strange request.
