I lived directly across the street from this apartment complex for 5 years, until moving last month

People are saying the reason the building is half vacant is because studios are $4,000 a month

Wrong

Here’s the part people are missing:

People who can afford to pay $4,000 a month in rent have options

And they are not choosing to live somewhere where homelessness is completely out of control

Since moving here in 2020, it has been a weekly occurrence to walk outside in the morning and see someone shooting up drugs on my doorstep

This is the first domino

Luxury apartments do not work if people feel unsafe stepping outside

This is not a rent issue

People would gladly pay these rents to live in Santa Monica

They just don’t want to feel unsafe every time they step outside
