@viyancefavour A terrible idea. It would make electoral rigging prohibitively expensive and significantly raise the stakes. Those who invest heavily in installing their preferred candidates would be determined to recoup their investments by any means necessary.
The real issue is transportation. Imagine affordable flights or fast trains connecting Nigerian states. A Dave fan from Calabar should be able to get to Lagos in hours to attend the event.
Let’s be frank, only a few of us on this side of the pond really fucck with Dave’s music. And like it or not, even with two big Afrobeats collaborations with Burna Boy and Tems, Dave has never connected with us like the Benin boy he’s supposed to be. Skepta has done a better job of that.
I knew there were issues when his team brought in Zaylevelten as ‘support’.
The bigger question is whether Dave has built enough of a connection with the Nigerian audience to sell those tickets in the first place.
That’s why I don’t think the economy alone explains why the tickets didn’t move. October is also a weird time for a show like this. Why not wait until December, when the diaspora comes home?
Two instruments that should never meet but when they do, you get this.
The kora is 300 years old. 21 strings made from a calabash and cow skin, from West Africa.
The cello is 500 years old. 4 strings, from 16th century Europe.
Different worlds with different histories but they speak the same language.

A weak naira has winners, and they're often the same people with the power to block the fixes. Cheap labor, cheap goods, dollar earnings. Everybody else pays.
