I have no idea whether Cpl Herbert Desborough or Pvt John Thomas Desborough are related to me in any way but here they are, Soldiers of the Great War who paid the ultimate sacrifice whose bodies were never found, immortalised at the Thiepval memorial.

We will remember them.

Aged 21, Bdr Cattini drove up Gold Beach in a three-ton ammunition truck that was loaded with 25lb shells and dozens of cans of petrol.

Today, I and one of my Trumpeters had the honour of sounding Last Post and Reveille for the legend Bdr Joe Cattini Légion de Honneur.

He was a Bombardier in the 86th Field Regiment RA of the Hertfordshire Yeomanry when he landed on D-Day.
