When you watch old videos of high-trust societies, you notice how little coercive infrastructure they needed. Here, one elderly policeman was enough because shared norms, reputation, shame, and neighbors willing to intervene maintained order.

As trust declines, informal social control collapses and ordinary cooperation must be monitored and enforced. Some men seem to have lived several lifetimes in one.

Sir Richard Francis Burton was one of them.

Born in 1821, Burton was a British Army officer, explorer, diplomat, writer, swordsman, and one of the most remarkable linguists of his age. He reportedly mastered 29 languages, along with numerous dialects.

In 1853, he disguised himself as a Muslim pilgrim and made the dangerous journey to Mecca. He spent years mastering the language, customs, prayers, and mannerisms necessary to maintain his disguise and reportedly even underwent circumcision to make it more convincing.

He also entered the East African city of Harar, explored in search of the source of the Nile, and reached Lake Tanganyika with fellow explorer John Hanning Speke.

During an expedition in Somaliland, Burton was attacked and struck by a spear that entered one cheek and passed through the other. He survived and carried the scars for the rest of his life.

As if that weren't enough, Burton was an accomplished swordsman, served as a British diplomat, wrote extensively about the cultures he encountered, and produced famous English translations of The Arabian Nights and the Kama Sutra.

Explorer. Soldier. Scholar. Linguist. Diplomat. Adventurer. And that seems to barely scratches the surface.

Sir Richard died in 1890 at the age of 69.

One thing any man finds if he really studies Ancient Greek and Roman Civilization is that many of the “morals” we consider to be Christian today were actually predated by Roman/Greek tradition and thought.

Take Caesar Augustus Moral laws as Roman Emperor. This is pre Jesus Christ, and are more strict than modern “Christian” (really Jewish) societies.

Ricardo Duchesne is correct. It’s more likely that Europeans impacted Christianity than the other way around.

The implication that this Jew is making is that if India converted to Christianity, it would have the same moral, and scientific achievements as Christian Europe. Obviously everyone knows thats not true.

The racial aspects and differences between peoples are unavoidable.

Culture and religion are software, and while immensely important, require certain racial hardware to flourish.
