@uydel_2019 with Uganda Police conducted a series of Radio Talk Shows in Busoga Eastern Region at Namayingo FM and Eastern Voice Bugiri to spread awareness on prevention of crime, violence and drugs in rural communities of Uganda @UNODC_EA
Today, UYDEL with support from @UNODC_EA Uganda Office and The embassy of the Netherlands in Uganda under the Strengthening Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Project, conducted a school outreach at Mutumba Seed Secondary School and a community policing session at Nabusera Parish in Namayingo District.
The two sessions brought together over 1,000 learners, teachers, parents, community leaders, and local residents for an interactive dialogue on the dangers of drug and substance abuse and its strong link to crime. Participants were sensitized on the risks of drug use, the importance of making positive life choices, and the role of families and communities in shaping safe and drug-free environments.
The school outreach engaged young people on resisting peer pressure and embracing constructive alternatives, while the community policing session highlighted collective responsibility in crime prevention, strengthening collaboration between citizens and law enforcement.
Through these efforts, UYDEL continues to empower both young people and communities with the knowledge and skills to prevent drug abuse, reduce crime, and build safer, healthier, and more resilient societies.

Sports has got the power to unite us as well as an avenue that can be used to pass on educative messages to people all over the world. World Drug Day Commemoration. Evidence is clear invest in prevention. @UNODC_EA @uydel_2019
At UYDEL Masooli Centre, youth from Banda, Makindye, and Rubaga under the #EASYU25 project took the stage for a powerful SRHR debate on the motion:
“High-risk sexual behaviors are the leading causes of sexually transmitted diseases or infections among adolescents.”
This motion was carefully selected to enhance the dissemination of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and rights among slum youth, explore the health risks linked to sexual exploitation, and deepen their understanding of Uganda’s laws on sexual rights violations.
This was more than just a debate, it was a spark for transformation.
The young people exposed the real risks threatening their sexual and reproductive health:
🚩 Drug and alcohol use
🚩 Multiple sexual partners
🚩 Unprotected sex
🚩 Transactional sex
🚩 Fear of or failure to seek healthcare
Held in English and Luganda, the session gave every voice power, broke silence around taboo topics, and challenged harmful social norms that drive exploitation and disease.
More than just words, this was peer-led action. Young people emerged informed, empowered, and ready to challenge stigma, promote safer choices, and defend their rights.
A heartfelt thank you to our partners at Bread for the World for your continued support in empowering young people with knowledge, confidence, and platforms to lead change. Your commitment makes youth-led impact possible.

Through our School-Based Sensitizations, we continue to collaborate with the Uganda Police in the Busoga East Region to raise awareness on crime prevention, preventing violent extremism (PVE)and drug abuse.
"I used to see people in my community taking drugs, but now I know how to safeguard myself practically." – Student participant
A huge thank you to UNODC Kampala Office and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda for their invaluable support in making these initiatives possible. Together, we are building safer communities and empowering young people with knowledge and resilience!
What if one school session could change the direction of a young person’s life forever?
That’s exactly what we’re seeing happen through our School-Based Sensitizations in Busoga East Region, where we’ve teamed up with the Uganda Police to spark real conversations with students about crime prevention, drug abuse, and violent extremism.
"Before the session, I thought using drugs was just something people did to cope, but now I understand the risks and how to make better choices." Student participant
That’s not just a quote, it’s a breakthrough moment. It’s a young person realizing they have the power to choose a different path. That’s why we do what we do.
This work aligns strongly with the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) resolution, which emphasizes that prevention should start early, before risky behaviors take root. And we’re doing just that: reaching youth early, equipping them with truth, resilience, and hope.
We couldn’t do it without the incredible support of the UNODC Kampala Office and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda, thank you for standing with us.
We believe in catching them young, not with fear, but with facts, stories, and real tools for real-life situations.
This is how safer communities are built. One student. One conversation. One choice at a time.

We were deeply moved by the words of Ms. @LesaNyambe, Head of UNODC Uganda Office, at our Alumni Event on 7th December 2024. She praised UYDEL’s commitment to supporting young people and took a moment to thank the alumni who bravely shared their inspiring stories of transformation.
Her message to everyone was clear:
"It is possible to change and become better, more responsible citizens. Everyone deserves a second chance."
She reminded us all to say no to violence, say no to drugs, and say no to crime—because together, we can create safer, brighter communities.
We’re so grateful for her encouragement and for believing in the potential of young people. Thank you, Ms. Nyambe, for inspiring us all to keep going! 🙌💪
One female youth peace ambassador made a commitment to reach out to ten young people in the community as part of her efforts to create safer communities free from crime and violence.
Another male youth said-"This is the first time I feel I need to reach out to my colleagues not to engage in crime, drugs and violent extremism. I like the certificate I have received"
