Kind of an addendum to this, but this whole thought process came about looking at modern MP3 / audio players using mass solid state storage and with modern DAC / amp tech which is significantly more refined than it was 20 years ago, while embracing non-internet reliant function.

Kinda amusing to me how many "new" products being marketed as premium options are just... old designs being made to standards that were established before those designs were leaned out into mediocrity. This doesn't mean that all old products are good, though! (1/2)

Many old products were overbuilt or designed with improper excess, and it's why they failed. Seeing people look back and understand that, then applying effort where needed, has created some nice "retro-modern" products as people reject modern tech trends. (2/2)

Seeing the differences in the temples and shrines across Tokyo both big and small has been a big part of my travels so far. I got a Goshuincho from a shrine in Ueno park and have worked diligently to collect Goshuin from places I’ve visited as a form of showing appreciation.

Been in Tokyo for a little over a week at this point and I’ve found the most frustrating thing to be sometimes needing to walk on the left and sometimes on the right and it doesn’t seem consistent. It’s nice how considerate people are on the trains, too. Be nice to them!

Shopping and ogling at expensive stuff is something any major metro can provide, and while I’ve done some of that, there’s a great opportunity here to collect niche media that I really appreciate. Taking part in certain religious practices also provides a unique feeling of calm.

Update: insurance has absolutely gone to bat for me and I’m basically paying nothing out of pocket getting more than I asked for. Nothing but positive things to say about their process so far.

Hit a pothole a couple of days ago which has produced one of the most sharply inconveniencing experiences in recent years. Diagnosis I got was that both rims on the right side are out of round and not safe to drive anymore, so it was towed ~220 miles to the dealer for free. 1/3

This is something I’d typically have done out of pocket on any other car - but replacing two rims is possibly a $2500 ask for a Polestar 2 w/ the performance rims. I’ll take the policy price hit over a bill like that.

Democrats, I also think, need to specify the lack of an off-ramp as the main problem with the Iran war. Generally I think Americans support "rational" conflict as an extension / result of failed diplomacy but there is no connection between this war and those previous efforts.

Can't wait for "Dems don't do enough on Palestine" to be the talking point that shreds midterm chances in swing states like Reps aren't a billion times worse on the issue, like everything else.

This is not to say there's nothing worth critique in the democratic party, but it should be understood to be more receptive and worth pursuing instead of putting hands up and going "nothing matters" and then letting the "we actively hate you specifically" party win.

Viewing Nextdoor is a special look into a certain kind of fearful and crazy I can't even begin to describe. The people on these neighborhood apps need some kind of help. They also vote. Prey animals are less fear driven than these people 😭
