@trouseredapes @GovNuclear The issue with “waste disposal” depends 100% on what you choose to recycle. If you recycle the actinides with fast reactors, the WD is a cask akin to the SNF cask. Safe as the ore in ~300 years.
If we waste the actinides, something like the Finnish solution is needed.

@DavidLeavitt @GovNuclear Your impression is misguided. The actual wastes, fission products and neutron activated materials decay to be safer than the mined ore in ~300 years. Its more like 50 if you recycle the Cs and Sr.
All the rest is fuel for fast reactors and can be converted for use very safely.
