UPDATE—18 year old boy dying of cancer finally gets his wish to hug his parents one last time.

It took 57 hours—after federal judge ordered his parents' expedited removal from ICE detention.

Terminally ill boy had been separated from his mom and dad for a total of 5 months.

@_nomadic_soul I see, the choice to have a large family does indeed require a good support network. I emphasize with those who have lost those dear to them (through death or other means) that makes raising children difficult 💔.
But for those who can, we need not criticize that life choice?

How do Christian parents succeed in passing on their religious convictions to their children?

A 35-year longitudinal study asked that question. And it found two things that were surprising.

One, fathers matter more than mothers. If the father is committed to his faith, the children are more likely to follow him. In short, fathers wield influence, whether they want to or not.

Of course, mothers also have influence, but not as much. My female students say that’s not fair.  And I say, I’m sorry, it’s a fact.

The second finding was that, to have that influence, the father has to have a warm, loving relationship with the child.  

It doesn't matter if he was a leader in the community, a pillar of the church, a moral exemplar.  If he is perceived as cold and distant, his children will not follow him.

Unpopular viewpoint.

I share the belief with many evangelicals that abortion is a sin, and stinks in the nostrils of God. I strongly support a constitutional ban against abortion.

Where I differ with evangelicals is, I believe the following sins are equally abhorrent to God as abortion: Racism. Sexism. Misogyny. Sexual Abuse. Predatory and Perverted Acts. Child Abuse. Slavery. Economic Exploitation. Police Brutality. Pride. Lying Tongue. Hands That Shed Innocent Blood.

One reason the vast majority of African Americans don’t vote Republican is because Republicans don’t nearly have the same passion to protect against the issues mentioned above as they once were, until recently, passionately against abortion. Trump’s misogyny, sexual and child abuse, and racism as exhibited towards The Central Park Five obviously does not bother Republicans. But, abortion does. Blacks simply don’t trust Republicans line of reasoning and logic that permits tolerance for Trump’s paying off porn stars, while not being outraged that he would not answer the question, if he had ever paid for an abortion.

The relief is because we weren’t sure that a jury in this nation would find White men who clearly lynched a Black man in broad daylight guilty.

So the trauma is real.

We need continual justice, which my father defined as “love correcting everything that stands against love.”
