This needs to STOP. It's beneath our country. It's beneath our progress made over the past 250 years. Why are we allowing openly racists bigots who hate anything not white and male to ruin our country and divide us like this! A great nation does not run from her history!
During the filming of Gone With the Wind in 1939, Clark Gable noticed that the restrooms on set had signs saying “White” and “Colored.” This meant Hattie McDaniel and other Black actors were not allowed to use the same restrooms as white actors. Gable was very upset. He told the director that if the signs were not taken down, he would quit the movie. The studio, afraid of losing him, removed the signs.
Clark Gable also showed kindness to Hattie McDaniel in other ways. He sat with her, ate with her, and treated her with respect when many people at the time did not. Their friendship stood out in a world full of unfair rules. Later, McDaniel made history as the first Black actor to win an Oscar, a moment that opened doors for many others after her.
Patriot Front came out of their moms’ basements, dusted off the Old Navy khakis, put on the white masks so they don’t get fired from their day jobs, and headed to Washington for America’s 250th birthday celebration.
Four hundred self-described patriots, not one ounce of bravery.
Powerful moment in Lampedusa today as the Pope Leo climbs to the highest rock overlooking the Mediterranean where thousands of migrants drowned while seeking a better life.
These masked men hate America more than any liberal I know.
They hate the fact that America is a nation built by immigrants.
They hate that America is a democracy instead of a dictatorship.
They hate that America is built on a separation of church and state; they want to be a theocratic regime.
The people who call themselves “Patriot Front” ironically hate everything about America.
I truly don’t understand this ruling, do you? Why would the Supreme Court rule that way especially when the evidence confirms it is true? So glad this son won his battle against this and that his Mom shared his story 🙏
“The picture on the left was my son after more than a gallon of glyphosate was tipped over his neck and shoulders during a work accident. This is why I won't stay quiet. My healthy, 6 ft 5, 18 year old son was taken down to 125 pounds after glyphosate seeped into his pores.
That picture? He'd turned a corner then. We all felt like he just might make it. We were celebrating. He could stand. He could get out of his hospital bed. He didn't want a picture taken at his worst - with no hair from rounds and rounds of chemo, looking more shrunken, bigger tumors. A few months before this left picture, he was at death's door, stage 4 lymphoma and the doctors didn't give us much hope he would live.
I'm one of the fortunate mothers. My son battled like a warrior. He survived and the right picture is him now. But there was a brutal seven year battle with all the alternative methods, all the chemo... so much that he became chemo resistant. Then when nothing else would stop the tumors from growing back, a stem cell transplant that wiped out his whole immune system in the hope it would restart. Many mothers.... many families are not so fortunate. They lost their loved one.
Last week the Supreme Court voted 7 to 2 that glyphosate didn't need a cancer warning. Monsanto won. Bayer won. Two of the largest companies in the world won against thousands of families. My son, our entire family and thousands of others families who have had glyphosate impact their lives felt this blow in our guts.
Eleven years ago the WHO announced it "probably causes cancer." We want the "probably" word gone. We want this monster named for who it is and what it does.
We lost the fight last week. But the battle will keep going. Mothers like me won't stop. Because we know.”

Fifty years ago, on the occasion of our bicentennial, President Gerald Ford made it a point to travel on July 5th to Thomas Jefferson’s home in Monticello to speak at a naturalization ceremony. His remarks are worth quoting at some length.

"Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President or any other public official save exactly to the degree in which HE stands by the country."
--Theodore Roosevelt
When you can't find a park ranger or a working bathroom at a National Park this summer, console yourself with the fact that POTUS is walking on fancy Italian granite...
MAJOR BREAKING: The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship, ruling that children born in the United States to parents who are unlawfully or temporarily present are U.S. citizens under the Fourteenth Amendment.
Elon, I can give you many, many names of people who have died because of your aid cuts.:
*Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because you stopped paying for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. I talked to her parents and sister in their village.
*Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of your cuts in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village.
*Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after you interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him.
*Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when you cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to him.
I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge you: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.
