Retired producer for the all-news station in Los Angeles, KNX NEWS 97.1 FM, which is NOT responsible for my opinions. No, I'm not the NFL network producer!
On this the last day before my retirement...I'm thinking about some of the amazing people here @KNXnews who made such a difference for me. Like Bob Sims who hired me and blocked me from being fired (twice), @KNXDiane, who was saddled with me as her producer for 30 years...(more)
(continuing) @HauleTom who gave me my favorite compliment of my career (and I can't put it on twitter), my bosses here, @kencharles and @knxjulie who, inexplicably have put up with me and my somewhat-less-than-prompt arrivals for years (more)
(continuing) And, of course, my producer-anchor partner for the past 20ish years, Greg Habell (who is smart enough not to have a twitter account). As you can see, we've been bringing you the long and the short of the news. And so so so many others. It's been an honor.
(continuing) The two great professionals anchoring afternoons now, @KNXSimpson who is the first anchor I've worked with who is a better producer than me...and @KarenKNX1070 who makes me laugh daily, often intentionally... (more)
(continuing) @davidghall who saved me when I was searching for the exits, @KNXJim, our live remotes were always an adventure, the great Ed Pardo, who retired decades ago, but who I still quote on a weekly basis (more)
After 36 years with what I truly believe is the best team in broadcast news, I am retiring at the end of this week. I love the bookends: I'm holding a Press Club award I received my first year @KNXnews, and a Golden Mike from my last year. I, obviously haven't aged a bit.
This is Joe Garcia. Today, journalists recorded him placing flowers at a cross that had his wife’s name on it. His wife, Irma, was a teacher who was killed in the Uvalde, Texas massacre. Not long after placing flowers, Joe died of a heart attack.
