It couldn't have helped that Crash sold more copies. So while both are good and sold well, it seemed there was more obvious interest in one over the other. It might've just taken a lot of pitching to get Microsoft/Activision to agree to make a new entry

I think the life and death of Skylanders hurt Spyro in some way and there's always been some hesitation for a new Spyro title since. It might have taken Activision 6 years after the Reignited Trilogy to start working on this new game, so in total 9 years to have a new one come
