You actually don't exist to suffer. Suffering is a sad fact of life, but it isn't life itself. It's something we endure, not something we embrace. Those who say otherwise have never experienced true suffering.
When you grow up in poverty, the last thing you need to hear is that it is GOOD and NATURAL that you should suffer.
No, you're "meant" to be happy. But you have to earn it.
This is such a weird tactic. Have you MET gamers? Videogames aren't exactly a safe space. If the hobby belongs to anyone (it doesn't), it actually belongs to the assholes, incels, and other various societal heretics. This overly sensitive attempt at shaming gamers for being anti-social or overly critical nerds is, ironically, "observer" behavior.
Y'all wouldn't have lasted in the early days of Xbox live. Stop the larp! 😂
Silent Hill 3, as well
Control was phenomenal.
One thing that irritates me is sometimes when these games have a likeable female protagonist they try too hard to make you aware of it. That's my only complaint about Control. I was playing, having a blast, thinking I (as the character) look so badass. I'm the kind of person who can really just sync up with the characters I play. I think most gamers can. But then they slip in one or two throwaway lines about how it's "about time a woman ran this place" and stuff of that nature. Just felt unnecessary and took me out of it for a sec
Felt like they don't WANT me to be able to see a female protagonist as just a person. They want me to either see her as a feminist icon or to fuck right off. So weird
Thankfully it was a very brief inconsequential line from some random NPCs. Irritating, though. But I guess there's an argument for it just being a realistic portrayal of the way some people actually think/behave. 😂
I think the offense is that making someone realistic means making them uninteresting or unattractive. And while this is definitely overstated in this discussion, they DID make her less attractive than the model they used (yes, even without makeup). And I don't understand the reason for that.
I do worry that there's this trend of thinking "more flaws = more realistic." I mean, was the goal here to make her more realistic than the real life model?
It's concerning that literature/reading has become synonymous with entertainment. Some books are purely, or mostly, for entertainment, certainly.
There IS a place for literature. Genuine literature. The stuff that emphasizes great and interesting prose, and makes us think, and opens our minds to new perspectives.
Right now, most books seem to have the goal of entertainment alone, even in contemporary literature. The prose is mediocre and samey, but worst of all, the "meaning" in these works seems to be entirely absent or, perhaps even worse, shallow and lacking any sense of true empathy.
What was the last contemporary literary novel you read that challenged the way you think or view the world? Hell, what was the last one that hit you with a sentence that took your breath away? Something that, even if devoid of deeper meaning, was just stunningly beautifully written?
That kind of literature does still exist. But it's not getting accolades. And it's becoming harder and harder to find.
It's crazy to say this because the actress looks nothing like the picture on the right even without makeup. She's gorgeous. Prettier than your average woman for sure. Even without makeup. That might still be unfair to your average woman, but saying the in-game design is ugly is not the same as saying the actress is ugly. The problem is quite the opposite. It's that the actress, even without makeup, is stunning, and this design is ... Just not
But tbf, unflattering screen capture
@daviderameh_@Pirat_Nation I mean, it's a little weird that they based it off her and made these changes. I agree that the screenshot is uncharitable, but I just don't get this decision regardless. The actress they chose is stunning. Why change her?
@LateNightCandi_ Is it entirely unfair or unreasonable that people might follow a franchise for its protagonist? For example, I like Tomb Raider, but I wouldn't keep playing new Tomb Raider games if they replaced Lara Croft. Lara Croft IS Tomb Raider. Kratos IS God of War.
It's crazy that these types of people make fun of the Right for calling everything "woke" when they do the same shit, but with Racism or Sexism
Brother it isn't the film, it's the lens through which you view the film. You're the problem.
Backrooms is racist film. It’s technically brilliant, but racist. And it’s a shame during a time where Black studies is being eliminated on college campuses because I fear people are overlooking the obvious tropes and racist callbacks the film ridiculously displays.
