Real Facts:
1. India is far behind in smartphone design capabilities although the government is rapidly pushing for the same (recent JVs)
2. Big ODM players don't entertain new incumbents so there is a monopoly.
3. For startups they would have to rely on lower ODM players (nothing wrong in that, I would also have done the same if I had limited resources to start the business).
4. Over time volume increases. Brand strength grows and doors open up.
5. Providing access to a ready made solution to Indian consumers is not a problem in my opinion. Do we know most of the entry level devices by big OEMs are ODM solutions and not in-house?

This shows the lack of maturity on a few people who tend to just simplify things. Hardware business = Hard (that's the reality)

Few Points People Ignore:
1. Smartphones and Smartproducts are a very capital intensive business and with limited resources and online platform push for launches one tends to rush GTM (which might be overlooking some details)
2. Launching so many smartphones and Smartproducts in such a short time is not a joke like people are thinking especially taking compliances and assembly challenges into consideration. So give credit where it's due.
3. When you invest your own money in procurement the lead time is high and one tends to time to market because money is blocked.

Few Mistakes:
1. Overcommitting or overselling on software. Acknowledge the gaps is the starting point which I think is happening.
2. Too nationalistic approach (I think being open about things is a good enough strategy)
3. Legal notices KOLs (could have been ignored). Similarly KOLs should also have reached out to the team for improvements.
4. Taking a dig at other Indian competing players (other players are also doing the same, not cool).

To Indian Tech Fraternity
1. I am seeing the tendency that we generally tend to put fellow entrepreneurs down by only highlighting the mistakes (know the Crab Mentality?)
2. We should encourage the effort first of at-least trying and then highlight whatever mistakes there are.
3. I can tell you the same quality being delivered by some other OEMs to which there will be a mum silence. Have you seen the kind of downgraded specs at such high price they charge in Offline market? Is it not fooling people in Tier 2 and below markets?
4. There is a genuine gap for an actual Indian player in Smartphones and it's not that easy.
5. There are certainly mistakes that are being made but that doesn't warrant such a reaction from both sides.

Might not be a fan of his working style but sitting on the sidelines seeing all this is not at all healthy for the tech industry.
