The ATREE team joined a packed house at the Bangalore International Centre to celebrate the new book “Fruitful Insights: Heritage, Ecology, and Promise of India’s Trees”.
The book is a remarkable journey through millions of years of evolution, ecology, culture and climate, all woven through the story of the simple fruit tree.
Our deepest gratitude to Umesh Maheshwari, whose generous support and long-term engagement made this entire project possible.
The evening featured a wide-ranging lecture by Dr Prasanna N.S. and a joint discussion with his ATREE co-authors — Dr Eapsa Berry, Dr Ravikanth G., Dr Ganesan R., Prof Uma Shaanker R. and our founder-president Prof Kamal Bawa — to share how fruit trees connect India's landscapes, livelihoods and legends.
From ancient partnerships between plants and animals to the cultural threads of mangoes and figs in our myths and rituals, these trees tell stories far beyond their sweetness.
In a warming world, perennial fruit trees offer real hope — supporting biodiversity, storing carbon, stabilising soils and building resilience in communities across India's biodiversity hotspots.
This work is part of ATREE's ongoing FRESH initiative, which supports smallholder farmers and communities in building sustainable, nutrition-focused livelihoods around fruit trees across India.
2. Name five national Muslim politicians besides
Asaduddin Owaisi. You will have to think hard. This is one of the achievements of Hindutva society and
culture, preserved painstakingly across 78 years.
Muslims are not equal. They have a place. They should keep their head down, stay out of sight, be grateful for not being murdered. Those are the real terms of the social contract with them.
This is the “personal price” @narendramodi is paying.
He will accept #Tarrifs for India, but won’t give up @gautam_adani .
Such a huge sacrifice for friendship.
Does it need to be more evident, that the Indian government is refusing even to pass on the @SECGov summons to #Adani
The story is that 1000s of Bengali speaking migrant workers are fleeing cities fearing arbitrary detention, torture and deportation to Bangladesh.
This is how our elite media reports it - a garbage collection problem.

The idea of a celebrity is tied to power and perception and relentless work goes into maintaining it. We see the celebrity as an individual, ignoring the massive machinery behind them and the structural advantages they enjoy.

If, however, art merely continues its foray into political abstraction and the commercial market space, it is likely to miss the opportunity to make that important public connection.

If we deny the structures that perpetuate suffering, we are absolved from having to change them.
... It’s a denial dressed up as helplessness, a refusal to acknowledge that exclusion is not accidental—it is engineered.

7- Anand Mangnale, who allegedly handed Chinese money to Sharjeel Imam for the Delhi riots, works for OCCRP.
Mangnale is linked to Congress and was actively fundraising for them while being part of DPSG.
Think about Gulfisha Fatima. She exercised her right to protest during the anti-CAA protests. She has been in jail for 4 years 7 months. Her bail plea is pending in Delhi High Court since 2 years. Now Supreme Court has refused to interfere in the matter. Justice, anyone?
My advice, for what it’s worth: try not to be distracted by the faintly discourteous, the mildly incompetent, the harmlessly obnoxious. Roll with the delayed trains, dropped litter and misused apostrophes. Save your powder for the truly malevolent creatures now stalking the land.
How many can say that they are actually enjoying their work?”
This is a massive crisis for today’s youth, unable to find satisfying livelihoods in either the traditional or the modern sectors. What kind of development is this?

Vardayini Goddess, her fish and her sacred grove will not agree with this, neither will the villagers of Tekpowale. A project that plans to destroy all that is truly green, is not Clean or Sustainable.
