Hundreds of US universities will close as the perceived value of a degree nosedives. But for the foreseeable future, elite universities will remain free of existential worries; for example, Princeton will still be able to fill its classes with willing payers, and it’s minimally dependent on tuition anyway.

Yet even elite universities will suffer for this trend, which they helped fuel by bowing to political activists. The soft power of US universities is already eroding at home and abroad. So is their place in international rankings, which say little in any one year but mark relative standing across decades.

A lot of the best modern literature was ironical and exploited the contrast between flawed self-understanding and the actual psychology at work.

Injecting this sort of honesty culturally was an incredibly important task, and there’s no cultural form that does that reliably anymore.

The modern novelist was later determined to be an oppressive figure who denied people the right to ‘author’ their own story, and woke more correct, that is true. But absent the novelist having that authority, fiction has devolved into narcissism, solipsism, and delusion in a way that has reverberated and pathologized psychological truth telling more broadly in the culture.

So the way this works is:

-- You are told not to apply for a job because you are a white man.

-- An underqualified person whose demographic traits match what you were explicitly told were the basis for the hiring is instead hired for the job, forcing you to do most of that person's work.

-- You are subjected to a racial struggle session in 2019 in which the trainer say that Christopher Columbus and all white people today are "cannibals" who are "like the devil" and include evil in their DNA.

-- Your supervisor calls you a colonizer.

-- You are told to step down from your job because you are preventing a POC from being promoted by continuing to have a job

-- You file a lawsuit in November 2022 for these overtly racially hostile and discriminatory acts.

-- You wait 27 months while evidence is gathered to see whether you have a legal claim worthy of going to trial

-- In February 2025, the district court grants summary judgment to your employer, dismissing all your claims.

-- You wait another 19 months for the 9th District Court of Appeals to say, in fact, your case can go to trial because civil rights law forbids racial discrimination against people of any color

-- The actual trial is potentially years in the future for unlawful abuses that derailed your career seven years ago

-- Takeaway: LOL Woke 1 was craaazy
