social media monitoring is one of the survival skills in a competition market.
most of the times, it's what keeps you 5 steps ahead of your competitors.
β both product & brand wise.
here's an example of monitoring but unrelated to social media.
late last year, i participated in a thread contest on an ai product.
the instruction β€ explain the entire project in a 4 tweets thread at most.
merely looking at the whitepaper & the sub products, i was already confused.
as premium user, i made the thread in 4 tweets but the tweets were long form.
so, there's a guy that submitted last in that contest.
he wrote a medium article, then wrote his thread in tweets of normal length.
he attached the link of the medium article to the thread for people to explore further.
and guess what?
he took the first position in the contest while i didn't even win.
when i asked him how he came up with that idea.
he said he watched the submissions of his competitors after writing his summary.
everybody was representing their threads in four tweets but long form.
so he decided to do something different & better from what everyone did.
the takeaway here is β€ he won because he monitored his competitors.
same thing happens to social media, you'll need to monitor your competitors if you're gonna better than them.
β for clarity:
your competitors are brands that builds the same product, yours is building or something related.
you'll need to monitor their;
> wins
> losses
> alliances
> marketing
> reputation
> brand voice
> differentiations
this is what helps you to get ahead of wide industrial changes (brand & product wise).
note: social media monitoring can come with personal objectives aside from these.
but whatever competitor analysis you're doing w this, should focus on satisfying your audience.
