@JohnAnde87 Well, they were kind of involved in the Vietnam War, when they sent a fighter squadron to help the North Vietnamese. They were also involved in several conflicts in Africa and the Middle East.

That the Confederacy was a beacon of freedom from government tyranny is a myth. In addition to slavery, the restriction of liberties in the Confederacy was arguably worse than in the Union: suspensions of habeas corpus, Alien Enemies Act, Sequestration Act, Conscription Acts.

@semicollegiate @StatesR …South definitely did not enjoy better rights than blacks in the North, and even if we were to limit the scope to free blacks in the North vs. free blacks in the South (what's the point in limiting the scope like this?), I just can't see how your claim is valid.

@StatesR @semicollegiate Then you have a wrong impression of me. I'm not the kind of libertarian who allows his thoughts to be driven by ideology, and these days, I rarely even mention the NAP in a discussion. I am interested in how the reasoning works, and I am eager to hear yours.
