As a Yankees fan, these are like our Yankees grandparents. I told them that. They laughed it off. One of the things I'm MOST proud of is that I made it to WFAN before they were done. I could never meet them. When I did they welcomed me in like they knew me for years. I'm crushed
I am thrilled that we are wearing a memorial patch "DAVEY" this year to honor my dear friend Davey Johnson who passed away last September. https://t.co/MbsZYPhFOu
Not enough people talk about Phil Cuzzi
• Umpired 3121 ballgames over 27 seasons
• First umpire to work a game after age 70
• Umpired some iconic games, including:
• The first game at new Yankee Stadium
• No-hitters by Cole Hamels, Bud Smith
• SHO by Ramon Martinez in first game
• First-ever Nationals pennant clincher
• The longest All-Star game of all time
• The last game at old Busch Stadium
• The "ass in the jackpot" Mets game
• 99 ejections is 43rd-most all-time
• And he had some memorable ones:
• Brett Gardner for smashing the roof
• 8 Devil Rays in a single game (2000)
• The first "sticky stuff" ejection (2021)
• First AB '91: Bryn Smith vs Brett Butler
• Last AB '25: S Dominguez v C Simpson
• (Both born after Cuzzi's umpiring debut)
• Raised over $1 million to fight ALS through the Robert Luongo ALS Fund, which he founded in 2005 in honor of his best friends who died of ALS.
@Alsboringtweets I worked at Boomers house once. I did the work, he wouldn’t sign an autograph or pay me, just ranted about Long Island taxes and Trump. He also said his producers suck
@Keith_McPherson Good luck on whatever the future may hold. You are extremely hard-working and will succeed. Had the pleasure of meeting you many times and I am a better person for it. Hopefully we will continue to see each other at the Stadium and the various charity events we both attend.
@Keith_McPherson great listening to in the car today. I remember your tryout show as I was driving home from something that night and had the FAN on. You have come a long way. No stopping you now. By the way, caller of the day was definitely Vince T from the #edlucasfoundation
@OfficialMLBRFC Agree walks were always important. “Sneered at” I think not. I think walks are currently overvalued by many who see them like hits. Runners have the potential to go further on hits. Walks are also given for strategic defensive purposes to avoid hot hitters or set up a force
Typically I don’t do this but I just wanted to share a tremendous loss. Harold Jaffe, the founder and owner/operator of Harold’s Deli in Edison NJ and many others prior to that has passed away.
Many of you knew Harold through his larger than life sandwiches I was one of the lucky many who knew him as a friend.
Simply put Harold was one of the most generous people I have ever met. A staunch supporter of Law Enforcement and first responders Harold gave a lot more than he ever received.
When I got in trouble back in 2017 Harold reached out to me personally and told me that while he had no idea what I was accused of or had done that he was always in my corner and promised me that I would never go hungry.
My family celebrated big moments with him and even had our baby naming ceremony for one of our kids at his restaurant.
If you believe in prayer please say one for Harold and his family and if you believe that the good go to Heaven than take a look towards the sky and I promise you will see Harold looking back down.
“I guess I just miss my friend”
