He became a symbol of Indigenous representation. His actions forced the country to confront a difficult truth: constitutional change could not happen while ignoring First Nations peoples.🪶

In 1990, while politicians rushed to pass the Meech Lake Accord, Harper stood alone in the Manitoba Legislature holding an eagle feather and refusing unanimous consent because Indigenous voices had been excluded from the process.
And because of that stand, the Accord collapsed.
