The everyday challenges faced by the children and officials were discussed in detail, with a focus on identifying practical solutions and creating a responsive mechanism for addressing their concerns.

Fake PayPal Customer Care Exposed | 3 Arrested

A cyber fraud racket targeting US citizens was busted by the Cyber Crime Branch, Kolkata, during a raid at Sunny Rock Villa, Beniapukur Lane, under Beniapukur PS on 3 September 2026.

The accused gang members were operating a digital setup that impersonated PayPal customer care, gaining remote access to victims’ computers via remote access software and subsequently siphoning off money and cryptocurrency through a network of wallets.

3 persons have been arrested. The raid led to the seizure of approximately ₹10 lakh in cash, 4 laptops, 5 mobile phones, 1 tablet and 6 cheque books.

Possible international money trails and connections are being investigated. A specific case has been initiated, and the accused will be produced before the court.

Fake Call Centre Racket Busted | 66 Arrested

Acting on specific source information, Kolkata Police raided a fake call centre at Rajdanga Main Road under Kasba PS on 02.09.2026. Posing as representatives of reputed telecom companies, banks and insurance firms, the operators deceived people across the country with promises of 5G tower installations, lucrative insurance returns and easy loans. Victims were convinced to pay ₹90,000–₹1,50,000 as processing fees, which were routed through mule bank accounts before they were cheated.

Investigation revealed that the racket had earlier operated from Patuli and used around 100 mule bank accounts, along with fake authorisation certificates, to win victims’ trust. Interrogation led to another similar call centre at Rajdanga Main Road, allegedly run by the same network.

A total of 66 persons, including 41 women and 25 men, were arrested from both locations. 71 mobile phones, 13 registers/diaries, 9 chargers, 2 debit cards and ₹16,000 cash were seized. Further investigation is underway.

It has come to notice of Kolkata Police that a highly false and misleading thumbnail/ news was aired through social media handles of R Bangla connecting name of Ld. Commissioner of Police Kolkata with an alleged land scam in Anandapur Kolkata.

The fact of the issue is that Enforcement Directorate had recently communicated further developments in the ongoing investigation to Kolkata Police, pursuant to which the process of further investigation was being duly undertaken under the supervision of the Ld. Commissioner of Police, Kolkata.

In these circumstances, the reporting, without ascertaining the correct factual position, is wholly irresponsible, unfortunate and unbecoming of a National broadcaster and has caused unwarranted prejudice to the reputation and credibility of the Ld. CP Kolkata, as well as Kolkata Police as an institution.

Republic Bangla is hereby called upon to issue an unconditional apology and prominent correction/retraction forthwith, failing which necessary legal action shall be initiated.

80th Independence Day Celebrations | Red Road

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated today at Red Road with great pride and patriotic fervour, as Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari hoisted the National Flag in a solemn ceremony.

The celebrations featured the felicitation of distinguished police personnel, vibrant performances by police contingents and schoolchildren, and impressive tableaus showcasing the achievements of various Government departments, flagship schemes and districts across the State.

The occasion was graced by Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Agarwal, IAS; Shri Siddh Nath Gupta, IPS, Director General, West Bengal Police; Shri Ajay Nand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata; Ministers of the State Government; senior dignitaries from the Armed Forces, celebrities and citizens.

Road Safety Week 2026 | Closing Ceremony

Road Safety Week 2026 concluded today with a closing ceremony at the PTS Auditorium, marking the successful culmination of a week-long campaign promoting the message that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The programme was graced by Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Transport, Government of West Bengal, Shri Ajay Nand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, and other senior officers of Kolkata Police.

A thought-provoking mime performance by Mouno Mukhor Kala Kendra highlighted the importance of road safety, while winners of the Road Safety Drawing Competition and the Helmet Selfie Challenge were felicitated. The programme concluded with an inspiring address by the Hon’ble Transport Minister.

The week-long observance reinforced the importance of responsible road behaviour, strict adherence to traffic rules, and mutual respect among all road users-because every safe journey begins with a conscious choice.

Kolkata Police Strengthens Collaboration with RBI and Public Sector Banks to Combat Financial Fraud.

Ld. Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, yesterday presided over a high-level coordination meeting with senior officials of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Public Sector Banks (PSBs) at Kolkata Police Headquarters. The meeting was also attended Addl Cp Crime and other senior officers of the Detective Department and the Cyber Crime Wing of Kolkata Police.

The meeting served as an important platform for strengthening collaboration among regulators, banks and law enforcement agencies to address the evolving challenges of financial and cyber-enabled frauds.

Detailed deliberations were held on enhancing the Early Warning System (EWS), timely reporting and detection of frauds, prompt sharing of information and digital evidence, swift freezing of fraudulent transactions, identification of mule accounts, strengthening due diligence in loan sanctions and collateral verification, improving inter-agency coordination, and adopting proactive measures to prevent financial crimes before public money is lost.

Addressing the gathering, the Ld Commissioner of Police emphasized that safeguarding public money and preserving public confidence in the banking system are collective responsibilities. He underscored that prevention through timely information sharing, robust internal controls, technological vigilance and seamless coordination is far more effective than post-fraud investigation. He called upon all stakeholders to continue working in close partnership to build a stronger, more resilient and fraud-resistant financial ecosystem.

The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation, enhancing response mechanisms and adopting a coordinated approach to protect citizens from emerging financial and cyber threats.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to strengthen institutional collaboration among Kolkata Police, the Reserve Bank of India and Public Sector Banks to prevent financial fraud, safeguard public money and reinforce public confidence in the banking system.

Yesterday at Bhawani Bhawan, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, launched four dedicated Public Grievance Helpline numbers and distributed 20,000 Rain Protection Gear Kits to personnel of Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police.

₹2.5 Lakh Theft Solved Within Hours

Yesterday, a man who left ₹2.5 lakh in a hired car while meeting his lawyer returned to find the driver missing after allegedly fleeing with the cash, abandoning the vehicle.

Burtolla PS swiftly identified and arrested the accused, Mahesh Gupta, through technical analysis and sustained fieldwork. Acting on his disclosure, the team recovered ₹1.5 lakh from a hotel in New Town and seized items allegedly purchased with the stolen money.

Efforts are underway to recover the remaining amount.

A Missing Mother Finds Her Way Home

It was around 11:00 p.m. last night. By then, the usually busy Ahiritola Street (161/2) had fallen quiet. During routine motorcycle patrol, personnel of Jorabagan Police Station noticed a middle-aged woman wandering aimlessly in a visibly confused state.

Concerned for her safety, the patrolling officers immediately informed the police station. With the assistance of the woman police personnel on duty, she was promptly brought to the station, where she was cared for with warmth and compassion under the Women’s Help Desk, just like a member of the family.

During their interaction, it became apparent that she had lost her way and had somehow reached Kolkata. Her incoherent responses initially suggested that she might be suffering from a mental health condition. However, the real challenge began thereafter.

She was unable to provide her name, address, or any details that could help identify her or her family.

Finding the home of an unidentified person is often like searching for a needle in a haystack. Yet, through the prompt response, perseverance, and meticulous efforts of the officers of Jorabagan Police Station, the seemingly impossible became possible. Within just two hours, the team successfully traced her family.

Upon receiving the information, her husband and daughter rushed to the police station at around 1:00 a.m. The emotional reunion of the family was a heartwarming moment for everyone present. After completing the necessary legal formalities, the woman finally returned home safely with her loved ones, expressing her heartfelt gratitude to the police personnel on duty.

গতকালকের ঘটনা। তখন রাত প্রায় ১১টা। কলকাতার ব্যস্ত আহিরীটোলা স্ট্রিট (১৬১/২) ততক্ষণে অনেকটাই শান্ত। কিন্তু সেই নিস্তব্ধ রাস্তায় এক মধ্যবয়��্কা মহিলাকে উদ্দেশ্যহীনভাবে, বিভ্রান্ত অবস্থায় ঘোরাফেরা করতে দেখেন মোটরবাইকে টহলরত জোড়াবাগান থানার পুলিশকর্মীরা। একাকী মহিলাকে এই ভাবে ঘোরাফেরা করতে দেখে
বিন্দুমাত্র সময় নষ্ট না করে তারা খবর দেয় থানায়। সেই সময় থানায় কর্তব্যরত মহিলা পুলিশের সহযোগিতায় তৎক্ষণাৎ তাঁকে নিয়ে আসা হয় থানায়। 'মহিলা হেল্প ডেস্ক'-এর ছায়ায়, ঘরের মানুষের মতো শুরু হয় তাঁর পরিচর্যা।
তার সঙ্গে কথোপকথনে জানা যায় তিনি পথ ভুলে কলকাতায় চলে এসেছেন। প্রাথমিকভাবে তার অসংলগ্ন কথাবার্তায় মনে হয়েছে তিনি কিছুটা মানসিকবিকারগ্রস্ত। কিন্তু আসল চ্যালেঞ্জটা শুরু হলো এর পর...
মহিলা নিজের পরিচয় বা ঠিকানা সঠিকভাবে বলতে পারছিলেন না।
নাম-পরিচয়হীন এক ম��নুষের ঠিকানা খুঁজে বের করা খড়ের গাদায় ছুঁচ খোঁজার মতোই কঠিন। কিন্তু জোড়াবাগান থানার পুলিশ সদস্যদের তৎপরতা ও নিখুঁত তদন্তের কাছে সেই কঠিন কাজও সহজ হয়ে গেল। মাত্র দুই ঘণ্টার ব্যবধানে খুঁজে বের করা হলো তাঁর পরিবারের সন্ধান।
খবর পেয়েই রাত প্রায় ১টা নাগাদ থানায় ছুটে আসেন তাঁর স্বামী ও মেয়ে। হারানো মাকে ফিরে পাওয়ার সেই মুহূর্তটি ছিল আবেগঘন। প্রয়োজনীয় আইনি প্রক্রিয়া শেষে, গভী��� রাতে হাসিমুখে পরিবারের হাত ধরে ঘরে ফিরলেন তিনি। কর্তব্যরত পুলিশ কর্মীদের জানালেন অশেষ কৃতজ্ঞতা।

Acting on specific source information, the Narcotics Cell of the Detective Department conducted a well-coordinated search operation at a hotel in the Tagore Park area under Kasba Police Station around midnight.

The operation led to the arrest of one individual and the seizure of approximately 7 kg of hydroponic cannabis (weed), with an estimated illicit market value of ₹2 crore. Officers also recovered ₹76,500 in cash, two digital weighing machines, and one mobile phone from the accused.

A case has been registered at Kasba Police Station vide Case No. 382 dated 17.07.2026 under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress.

A brief moment of distraction while depositing cash at an SBI E-Corner on Townshend Road resulted in the theft of ₹10.57 lakh, leaving the complainant in severe distress.

Responding with exceptional promptness, SI Durgaram Mondal of Bhowanipore Police Station launched a meticulous investigation. Through careful analysis of CCTV footage, technical evidence, and sustained investigative efforts, the accused security guard was identified and arrested on the very day of the incident.

Acting on the accused’s disclosure, the investigating team successfully recovered and seized ₹10 lakh of the stolen amount.

Efforts are continuing to recover the remaining stolen money and bring the investigation to its logical conclusion.
