The doctrine of election teaches that before the foundation of the world, God chose those who would come to salvation.
The anchor Scripture is Epistle to the Ephesians 1:4โ5:
โFor He chose us in Him before the foundation of the worldโฆ He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ.โ
The question, then, is how God carries out this predestination.
Did God program some people to accept salvation while appointing others to damnation?
Calvinists answer yes. They hold what is called unconditional election.
In this view, God chose some people to be saved purely by His sovereign will, not based on anything humans do.
Their key text is Epistle to the Romans 9:11โ13:
โThough they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or badโin order that Godโs purpose of election might continueโฆ โJacob I loved, but Esau I hated.โโ
They also cite Romans 9:22โ23:
โWhat if God, desiring to show His wrath and make known His power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of His glory for vessels of mercy?โ
From this, Calvinists argue that God sovereignly determines who will be saved and who will not.
Others argue that God predestines based on foreknowledge.
This view is commonly associated with Arminian theology and is called conditional election.
According to this perspective, God foresees those who will freely respond to His grace and then elects them.
The biblical order appears in Epistle to the Romans 8:29:
โFor those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.โ
So the sequence is foreknowledge and then predestination.
Another commonly cited text is First Epistle to Timothy 2:3โ4:
โGod our Saviorโฆ desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.โ
The real tension in this debate is how to reconcile Godโs sovereignty with human freedom.
If God predestines salvation, how can humans still be responsible for their choices?
My own view follows Norman Geisler, who argued that Godโs predetermination does not cancel human freedom.
Norman Geisler is the most respected theologian in my world.
Think of watching a recorded football match. The result is already fixed for you watching it.
But when the match was originally played, the players acted freely and made real decisions that determined the outcome.
Your knowledge of the result did not cause their actions.
In a similar way, God from His eternal vantage point sees what we will freely do.
What we call the future is already present to Him.
God therefore predetermines events not by forcing our will, but by allowing them to occur through our free choices.
In this sense, God is the ultimate cause of all things, while human beings are the immediate cause of their free actions.
God created free agents, and those agents make real decisions.
Election, then, can be understood as God foreknowing those who will freely accept His grace and predestining them to salvation.
Calvinists usually respond with Epistle to the Romans 9:16:
โSo then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.โ
They argue that this proves election cannot depend on human choice at all.
The response is that the passage is addressing Godโs sovereign right in the unfolding of salvation history, particularly His choice regarding Israel and the inclusion of the Gentiles.
It does not necessarily mean that God arbitrarily predestines individuals to salvation or damnation.
Elsewhere Scripture affirms both Godโs sovereignty and human responsibility. For example, Second Epistle of Peter 3:9 says:
โThe Lordโฆ is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.โ
The relationship between predestination and free will has been debated in Christian theology for centuries.
What I have presented here is simply the view I find most reasonable:
God predestines based on His perfect foreknowledge of what free creatures will choose.
Strong objections to this view are expected, but that is the nature of a debate that has existed in the Church for generations.

We found this little boy Uzochukwu in Abakpa Enugu who has not been in school.
Upon checking his past results, we discovered he was doing really well in school.
We will be returning him back to school asap via ISEE (https://t.co/hHNaohSBul).
We are actively looking for exceptional children like this to support their education.
Just wondering.
What is the purpose of fighting slavery (Arab, European, and Afrikan slaveries) for centuries, then fighting colonialism for decades. Only to end up gradually becoming slaves in oneโs respective indigenous lands?
Many of Post-colonial/post independence Afrikan leaders have failed their people woefully. They will hold on to power aggressively. But they cannot protect the people they claim to rule.
Imagine. Many afrikan presidents/governors, are not in charge of all their lands. A good part of their land are now being controlled by terrorists. And the people they claim to lead are facing oppressions.
Love him or hate him, @MI_Abaga remains the undisputed monarch of African hip-hop. His eclectic mastery and enduring influence over the genre across Africa stand unmatched. Happy birthday to the King! ๐๐ถ
Iโm putting it to you, my brother Bashir, if you can point to any instance where you personally condemned violent attacks on Christians during President Buhariโs administration, I will apologize to you, take down all my tweets about these killings Christianโs, and donate โฆ250,000 to any cause of your choice. But if you canโt, then please stop gaslighting yourself.
If the Sultan use this energy and the power of his office to constantly address and educate about what he is talking about, perhaps, we will not be experiencing the current evils.
If the Islamist are not targeting Christianity because they also kill Muslims, why not come and advocate for the Muslims being killed the same way we are advocating for the Christians being killed?
The goal is for killing in the name of religion to end. At least, we donโt have Christians killing Muslims and Christians in the name of Jesus.
Baba Elepo the Rock of Gibraltar
When it was time for my father and his wife, Mama Tunji, to leave for home , I watched as Baba Elepo searched for his orthopedic walking stick. He found it beside his chair and, with visible effort, pulled himself upright. His eyes met mine, and he smiled, extending his arms. I understood immediately, he wanted me to pull him ,I grasped his hands, helping him to his feet. He didnโt let go. Instead, his fingers tightened around mine , a silent request for me to walk him to the car.
As we moved slowly, his weight leaning on my shoulder and his other hand gripping the walking stick, I couldnโt help but marvel at the moment. This was Baba Elepo, my father, the athlete, the footballer who his teammates called the Rock of Gibraltar , the man whose reputation on the field was simple: โIf you miss the ball, donโt miss the leg.โ . I still remember the afternoon I crossed a line (Iโve long forgotten what I did). After my punishment, he decided to finish the lesson with a few boxing jabs. When I instinctively blocked his blows, he paused, eyebrows raised, โ oh so on block mi ? Meaning โOh, so you are blocking me?โ he asked, surprised. I quickly dropped my guard and took the rest of my punishment.
This was the same man who taught me to change a car tire. When his car had a flat, he handed me the spanner and told me to remove the nuts. I strained with all my strength, but they wouldnโt budge. Without a word, he took the spanner and turned each nut effortlessly. After changing the tire, he asked me to tighten them. I did, confident Iโd secured them well. He checked, then tightened them further, each one moving under his grip as if Iโd barely touched them. This was the father who once carried my younger sister and me on his shoulders, as if we weighed nothing.
Now, here we were.
The walk to the car was slow. He paused occasionally, looking at me with that gentle smile. I wondered what memories filled his mind, but his joy was unmistakable. This moment was everything life is about, the passing of time, the shifting of roles, and the quiet grace of acceptance.
I thought of my own life. I still train and fight Judo almost every Saturday. Iโve won gold medals and a silver at an international event in the U.S. three years ago. As a third-dan black belt, my children, including my late son Adams fight Judo. Iโve fought them all and Iโve beaten them all. But lately, a question lingers . Did I really beat them, or did they let me win? After all, I still pay their school fees.๐๐คฃ
The Yoruba say, โMakan makan loye nkanโ gradually, it becomes your turn. My generation is feeling it now. Stairs that once seemed effortless now slow us down. Jogging has become jeje walking. My friend Olumide, who once drove at reckless speeds, now moves carefully, earning the title โBabaโfrom those around him. Knees buckle, reading glasses become necessary, and doctors warn us away from foods we once loved. Our parents, who once seemed invincible, have shown us their humanity. Now, itโs our turn to care for them. This is the beauty of life makan makan loye nkan.

Another #Fulani convert to #Christianity is about to graduate from Bible School, Diploma in Theology [Biblical Studies].
Keep praying for us because, as #Ex_Muslims to Christianity we are built on the strength of persecution, rejection from our relatives and everyone around us.
But even with all this, we always stayed faithful to Jesus despite being under the siege of the Islamic extremists because we know what we found in Christ Jesus, [eternal life].
We want our brothers to be saved this is why we can go to any length for the propagation of the Gospel. Keep praying for us and the ministry!
