You grow lacrosse by paying players boatloads of cash so families across America know that if their kid picks up a lacrosse stick instead of a basketball, football, or soccer ball, they can dream of unlocking more or equal opportunities than in any other sport. That’s part of the American dream.

If players are paid enough to support their families without a second job, they will be inclined to grow the sport and become ingrained in their communities (or mandate X hours of community involvement for additional cash).

Acquire the capital by any means necessary (within reason), which is why partnering with a finance firm or tech company should not be dismissed. What happens if it goes to an owner model? Should they tell jamie diamond he can’t own a team? Steve Cohen owns the Mets, so does that mean baseball is an elitist sport?

To be clear, I am a fan of the PLL. I want to see the league succeed. I came to this thread to debate a few key poin

1.The league most find a way to increase salaries so we can see these guys focus solely on the sport of Lacrosse and not have to work other jobs. There is a small percentage that can, but it is not the majority. An idea I have is leveraging the equity and an offramp to making that equity liquid in order to help offset the salaries of the league. We can't be having the best players who make the sport better to watch, leave to amateur leagues.

2.I believe they should lean into the core demographic to raise funds. Maybe that means that the league can better survive without as much travel now that the brand is out there. They need to lean into core demographic, while continuing to expand into new demographics. That's the only way to scale and grow. That is not talking out of both sides of my mouth it's just how you grow a business.

3.I'm not the PLL and don't have all the answers. However, I should be able to come and debate these core topics without it turning into me not believing that the league is white enough.

Here is a simple fix: Give the players equity. After each season, provide investors the ability to buy shares back from players based on the current fair market value of the equity. Player equity vests based on their contract with the league. Players can decide to hold the equity or sell it if they need more money. Reserve 20-25% of PLL valuation for player equity.

The discussion needs to shift to how do we get players to be able to be full-time lacrosse players, and be able to live in a tier-1 city comfortably. Not bickering back and forth on X. Leaning into the core demographic of the product, and focusing on one revenue generating product at a time is an okay idea to float

Isn’t that the entire point? The league is not doing well enough to be able to retain top players who are getting low six figured to play for MSL teams? Or, the league is not doing a good enough job articulating a path to liquidity on the equity. Easy fix if salaries are not there would be to give top players a 4 year equity package to remain with the league vs leaving to MSL.
