This sequence in Sinners is one of the most memorable stretches of filmmaking this year. I always talk about how movies are moments. We forget plot & character long after we’ve seen a film. But we remember moments. Ryan Coogler blessed us with more than one moment in Sinners.
Margit remains the best first main boss in a Fromsoft game by a landslide. He has some of the nastiest frametraps in the entire game, many mix-ups, delayed attacks for extra openings, etc. simply incredible.
Margit hitless, without HUD for extra epicness.
Hearing Rockstar’s Dan Houser who was the lead writer for all their games’ personal life experience is eye-opening, he put his own SOUL into these games.
GTA and Red Dead’s stories ARE Dan’s stories:
- GTA 4 had that dark, depressing tone because Dan himself was an immigrant in New York struggling heavily with life, dealing with loneliness and Rockstar’s future was uncertain after the Hot Coffee scandal.
- Arthur having Tuberculosis was based on Dan’s own grandfather who had TB before antibiotics but survived it.
- Red Dead Redemption was written right as his girlfriend (soon to be his wife) got pregnant, so John as sort of that family man having to step up and take the lead in raising his son and take care of his wife came from that
- GTA Vice City came from that love of the 1980s cinema and the period where he grew up, the 80s were only 16 years ago when VC came out so it wasn’t really rooted in that deep nostalgia you see nowadays, but more of a homage.
He truly put his personality, life experience and everything he went through in these games.
OG Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield is ‘making calls’ about ‘Dead Space 4’ 🎮
• He’s more optimistic since EA is being sold and someone new could buy the IP
• Thinks the series would make a great movie or TV show adaptation
