The Lighthouse Initiative under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen Phase II convened GP stakeholders in Prithla Block, Palwal, Haryana on January 22, 2026. The orientation brought together India Sanitation Coalition, CRY, Knorr-Bremse, and the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation to advance ODF Plus models.
Key speakers included Mr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey (Team Lead, Central PMU for LHI, DDWS), Ms. Rupali Agrawal (CSR Head, Knorr-Bremse), Ms. Sukriti Makkar (Sr. Programme Manager, ISC), and Mr. Rakesh Kumar (Gram Sachiv, Block Prithla).
Discussions focused on solid-liquid waste management, community engagement, behavior change, and village development planning with active participation from Sarpanches and Swachhta Sathis.
The training emphasized practical solutions including household waste segregation, composting methods (NADEP, vermicomposting), greywater management, and plastic waste reduction. A highlight of the session was the showcase of Knorr-Bremse's greywater management initiative already underway in Baghola village, demonstrating real-world implementation and impact.
Participants committed to developing priority-based Village Development Plans, with Baghola Gram Panchayat identified as the pilot GP. Special focus was placed on the construction and functionality of the GP Segregation Shed at Baghola, which will serve as a critical infrastructure component for effective waste management and a demonstration model for other villages.
The initiative leverages funding from SBM-G, 15th Finance Commission, MGNREGA, and CSR contributions to create replicable models of sanitation excellence across rural India.

A decade of transforming lives through sanitation, hygiene, and clean water. As we celebrate 10 years of impact, the India Sanitation Coalition is evolving to meet India’s pressing environmental challenges. We are expanding beyond WASH to address plastic pollution, climate action, and clean air—because sustainable health requires holistic solutions.
Our integrated approach tackles waste management, improves air quality, and creates plastic-free environments alongside essential sanitation services. From village-level behavior change programs to community-led waste segregation systems, our interventions are creating lasting transformation where it matters most: at the grassroots, in every neighborhood, empowering communities to build their own sustainable future.
Heartfelt thanks to Ms. Pranjal, a student of Class XI for being the voice of Tara. 💙
