Q: Is it possible as an international student in Canada to obtain Canadian PR before finishing your studies?
A: Read Mrs E’s story of how she was able to achieve PR after her studies in Aug 2025.
She received permanent residence in less than 3 months (October 2025 to January 2026)
📌PR approved for family of 3
📌Category:French Express Entry
📌Work experience:Foreign work experience as a Financial Analyst and eligible for FSW.
📌Canadian Work experience:No.She wasn’t eligible for CEC
📌Status in Canada:PGWP
📌Previous Status in Canada:International student,2yrs program completed in Aug 2025.
📌Husband’s Status in Canada:Worker
📌Son’s Status in Canada:Student
She arrived Canada as an international student in 2023 and was prepared from day 1.She did a 2-yr program(1+1) and wrote TCF in Canada to boost her CRS point in the Express entry pool while still studying.
Note that she has some knowledge of French from Nigeria but what stood out for her was PREPAREDNESS before arriving in Canada as a student.
It’s 100% possible as an international student in Canada to obtain Canadian PR before finishing your studies if you have minimum of 1yr foreign work experience in TEER 0,1,2/3 and do the following:
📌write TCF/TEF French language test with minimum of CLB7
📌ensure you have your IELTS GT/CELPIP/PTE Core at CLB10
If you can focus on the 2 language skills as stated above, you will be a good candidate under the French category of the express entry.
Congratulations Mrs E et al from Nigeria.

During this time, we also plan to pause decisions on applications from these countries. Increased scrutiny of temporary resident visa (TRV) applications has led to an 80% drop in asylum claims from TRV holders over the last 2 years.

Canada will change the visa requirement for eligible citizens of Malaysia and Indonesia starting tomorrow, May 26, at 5:30 a.m. ET: https://t.co/63K6Axbplx
Indonesian and Malaysian citizens will no longer need a Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) to fly to or through Canada if they’ve had one in the past 10 years or if they currently hold a valid US non-immigrant visa. Instead, they will be able to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA).
Indonesian and Malaysian citizens who don’t meet these criteria or who plan to enter Canada by land or sea will still need a Canadian visitor visa. Those who already have a valid visa can keep using it until it expires.
As Canada builds stronger ties across the Indo-Pacific, expanding visa-free air travel will make it easier for people to travel for business, investment and trade between Canada, Malaysia and Indonesia.
T13 LMIA Work Permit Exempt approved in 12 days.
She came to Canada as an international student, received Pgwp for 3years and expecting OINP nomination before Pgwp expires.
No OINP decision for months and Pgwp is about to expire. She approached her employer for an LMIA before her pgwp expires and the waiting process for LMIA continues.
She applied for work permit extension with the evidence of LMIA application in progress and OINP awaiting decision but the application was refused because of missing LMIA approval from ESDC.
Before the refusal of her work permit extension, she submitted a work permit application when she received OINP nomination with work permit support letter,T13. This work permit will be refused because the initial work permit has been refused while on maintained status.
To avoid this second refusal of her work permit, we told her to reach out to her employer for a new LMIA exempt A# after reassessing her situation to submit a new T13 work permit application with restoration of status.
We requested for new employer compliance fee because you can’t reuse the previously LMIA Exempt A# due to the likelihood of refusal of the second work permit.
Her employer provided a new LMIA exempt A# and we submitted the T13 work permit for Mrs E.
Application approved in 12 days and can happily return to work after months of not working due to her situation.
Congratulations Mrs E from Nigeria.
From voluntary departure to returning as Permanent resident 🇨🇦
This is the story of Mr D after he voluntarily departed Canada 10yrs ago because his study permit extension was refused in 2015 while attending one of the top universities in Canada.
He met his wife when she came on holiday for mutual friend’s wedding in Lagos, Nigeria.
Courtship lasted for 2yrs despite the distance between 🇳🇬 and 🇨🇦.
They married in 2025 and he was sponsored by her Canadian-Nigerian Spouse.
We are glad to see their reunification in Canada this summer.
Congratulations Mr D from Nigeria.
Nova Scotia PNP nomination in 3months and 15 days.
Mrs E started her immigration journey with our firm via study permit to Canada after receiving study permit refusal when she did her first application by herself.
We applied for her study permit on Nov 28,2024 and was approved on January 10,2025.
She attended one of the private college partnership programs with the province of NS for 1yr and this program doesn’t have PGWP opportunity rather you must get an employer to obtain work permit and a nomination for Permanent Residence from Nova Scotia.
After her program,we applied for NSPNP Graduate in demand stream as ECE Assistant,NOC 42202 and received nomination with T13 work permit support letter in less than 4months.
This is an advantage of working with the right immigration firm and following their instructions as per your Canadian immigration journey.
