@archi_tradition I spent one glorious year in Bamberg, Germany, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its medieval old town. Those smaller ancient cities in Germany that weren't bombed in WWII are absolutely stunning.
@UnitedStandMUFC With no injuries, that lineup plus the young ones in the squad could still manage a Champion's League spot. But the injuries bit... there's the rub.
@PaulHuangReport@KP_Taiwan Interesting... By the way, kudos to P.H. for an excellent article at https://t.co/nr4TWCKvA9 about the election on Saturday.
@archi_tradition Taiwan. Only recently has the government there realized that they had a tourist goldmine on their hands. What a beautiful country it is - the entire east coast is gorgeous.
@archi_tradition Kyoto. Whenever an ancient structure is destroyed by fire and rebuilt as before, the Japanese consider it to be the same building. I respect that sense of continuity and connectedness.
@cultural_vista@archi_tradition I lived in Bamberg for a year in the 80s - my first job after graduating university in the States. What a magnificent city to live in after an early life in the American south. BTW - Bamberg had a notable history of witch-burning during the early Reformation. Scary stuff.
@crockpics What a talent. I saw FM on the Rumours tour in the 70s. It was as close to as perfect a live show as I've seen, and Buckingham was a major factor in that high standard of performance. Special.
@Super70sSports Dude looks like he had blocked for Earl in high school back in Tyler. "Dagnabit Cross, dig that nose guard outta there and let the big fella run!"
@TrimontiumTrust@GettyMuseum He has the morose demeanor of one whose path had unfortunately crossed that of the Emperor Antoninus. The man we call Caracalla was one nasty piece of work. RIP Geta.
@TheRestHistory Those outfits!!! The Tubeway Army/early 80s synth-pop crowd had to have studied them in detail. And what is it with Faschist frontmen and mustaches? As is the case with Trump, Putin, Orban et al, they are all hyper-focused on style and presentation. I look forward to the pod.
@TrimontiumTrust Too bad her son Bassianus/Antoninus/Caracalla/whatever turned out to be a homicidal maniac. His ravaging of Alexandria is up there with the worst of Caligula's depravity. Heredity monarchies... no bueno. The adoption system from Nerva to Antoninus Pius worked well.
@ThatEricAlper No wonder I've never liked them - 70s Deep Purple with Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillian... now that's some pedal to the metal YOLO music.
@GrecianGirly No wonder the Ancient Greeks were such avid seafarers and colonists. Such a landscape could not sustain many people. It made for tough hoplites, no doubt - the land that begat Achilles and Ajax.
