The VMax reveal is a pivotal moment. It’s a huge reveal actually. This shows where Jean’s sister was, Jean experiencing the exact same torture her sister went through, and when she was at her breaking point just like Jean, the last the thing she saw was that vent. And Jean realized that when she saw it too, and instead of giving in to the torture and being broken, it filled her with rage, that unlocked her powers to the next level.
