We are transforming cancer research and clinical care by linking our innovative approach to drug discovery, delivery and development to our patient care program
Our clinical trial leaders gathered with colleagues from around the country this week at the 18th annual @AACI_Cancer Clinical Research Innovation Meeting.
Erin Winters joined a panel on multidisciplinary collaboration, explaining how the cancer center evolved cellular therapy from a hematologic malignancy program into an institution-wide platform.
Thank you Erin and our clinical trial leaders for sharing your insights and fostering collaboration with other cancer centers.

Recently, the Royals and @KUcancercenter teamed up to host the first annual Royal Resilience luncheon. Five men's cancer survivors, with their caregivers and physicians, were celebrated and honored at Kauffman Stadium. Participants heard from Royals alumni Les Norman and Jeff Montgomery, went on a VIP stadium tour, and played catch on the field with Kyle Isbel. It was a great day!
University of Kansas Medical Center' Ron Chen, MD, MPH, FASCO, FASTRO, Chair, Radiation Oncology, participated in Royal Resilience: Men's Cancer Survivorship Luncheon.

Teaching Kansas teachers 📝
High school STEM educators recently completed our Professional Development Workshop, equipping them with cancer-focused biology lesson plans.
The unit, Intro to Cancer: Leukemia & Hina’s Story, tells the story of an 11-year-old girl diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Students learn about the cell cycle, blood cell differentiation, the immune system and how cancer can disrupt these processes.
Ron Chen, MD, MPH, FASCO, FASTRO, KUMC Rad Onc Chair, presented "Health Related Quality of Life with Pembrolizumab, Results From The AMBASSADOR Randomized Trial (A031501)" at ASCO 2026 Annual Meeting.

That's a wrap on the 25th Annual Midwest DNA Repair Symposium at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Two days, 175 attendees, 4 keynotes, 22 talks, and 85 posters of genuinely incredible science (also some fun socializing of course). I am still smiling, but a bit tired. 🧬🌻
For #ASCO26 attendees: see “Early results of COMPARE, a prospective comparison of outcomes with proton and photon radiation in prostate cancer” as part of the Rapid Oral Abstract Session happening at 4:30pm in Hall D1.
Also in this morning’s poster sessions, melanoma research involving Dr. Gary Doolittle is on display in Hall A at board 249. See “Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) clearance after immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI) with radiotherapy (RT) as a prognostic indicator for patients with advanced melanoma” from 9am-12pm.
Happy Sunday #ASCO26! Dr. Xinglei Shen will be presenting this morning in Poster Hall A from 9am-12pm. Find him at board 118 to hear about “Image‑only and multimodal AI digital pathology biomarkers to demonstrate risk stratification across standard prostate cancer management strategies”
Hello #ASCO26 attendees! Find @anup_kasi presenting during this afternoon’s Poster Sessions. From 1:30-4:30pm, he will be at board 149b in Poster Hall A presenting “A late‑phase randomized open‑label multi‑cohort trial to evaluate immune‑related adverse events with different standard‑of‑care dosing strategies of standard‑of‑care immunotherapies: ImmuRAD trial.” What a great team of multidisciplinary researchers represented in that study!
If you’re attending #ASCO26: Head over to the Arie Crown Theater at 3:57pm where @RonaldChenMD is presenting “Health‑related quality of life (HRQOL) with pembrolizumab or observation for high‑risk muscle‑invasive urothelial carcinoma after surgery: Results from the AMBASSADOR randomized trial (Alliance A031501.)” The Oral Abstract Session starts at 2:45pm.
Good morning #ASCO26! Later today, don’t miss Dr. Marc Hoffmann presenting “Golcadomide (GOLCA), a potential, first‑in‑class, oral CELMoD + Pola‑RCHP in patients with newly diagnosed aggressive B‑cell lymphoma (a‑BCL): Safety and 12‑month efficacy results.” It’s part of the Rapid Oral Abstract session happening in Room E450a at 1pm.
Hello #ASCO26! We are excited for this year’s annual meeting and encourage you to follow along using the official conference hashtag. Safe travels to Chicago!
Led by @KUcancercenter's Dr. Joseph McGuirk and published in @BloodPortfolio's Blood Advances: Allogeneic CD19 CAR T (CTX110) in relapsed/refractory B‑cell NHL showed 65% response and 39% complete response at higher doses, w/a manageable safety profile. https://t.co/qrsi4j3Z7m
